The 2019 Kimmie Awards Celebrates “The Illustrious Woman”
2018 has been defined as the "Year of the Woman," and in 2019 the movement's momentum only continues to grow. Therefore, the 2019 Kimmie Awards will shine the spotlight on "Illustrious Women," proudly saluting individuals who promote the message that all women have unique gifts and attributes which make them illustrious. To name a few of our honorees, the recipient of the Visionary Award is the beautiful and talented actress Megan Good, and television/music executive (creator of the Love N Hip Hop franchise) Mona Scott-Young will receive the Pinnacle Award. Men, we did not leave you out, Roger M. Bobb (president and CEO of Bobbcat Films and former executive vice president of Tyler Perry Productions) will be presented with the Luminary Award, and award winning singer/songwriter Vedo will receive the Trailblazer Award.

AN EVENING WITH Phyllis Hyman, a world premiere musical the creators of the Broadway bound musical Mighty Real: A Fabulous Sylvester Musical, has added an additional three-performance weekend to the previously announced performances due to popular demand. The previously announced performances on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 8pm, Sunday, January 29 at 2pm, and Sunday, January 29 at 7pm are now SOLD OUT, and additional performances will now take place on Saturday, February 4 at 8 pm, and Sunday February 5 at 2 & 7 PM. Last evening, the Apollo Theater celebrated its 11th Annual Spring Gala raising $1.7M for its year-round artistic and community programming initiatives. The concert portion of the evening was hosted by LL COOL J, and opened with the dynamic dancing duo Laurent & Larry Bourgeois of Les Twins. The concert also featured performances by legendary R&B group, The O'Jays including rousing version of Love Train, The Backstabbers, For the Love of Money and more. Rising star vocalist, Leon Bridges brought the crowd to its feet with a performance of Mustang Sally and vocalist Andra Day performed her hit song City Burns,followed by a touching performance of Unforgettable in tribute to legendary songstress Natalie Cole. Host LL COOL J also joined DJ D-Nice for a tribute to Phife Dawg of A Tribe Called Quest - one of several iconic artists lost in 2016.

City Parks Foundation has just recently launched the 2013 season of SummerStage presented by AT&T, New York's largest free performing arts festival, bringing over 100 free performances to seventeen parks throughout the five boroughs. With performances ranging from Soul, Hip-Hop, Latin and Opera music to dance, comedy and theater, SummerStage fills a vital niche in New York City's summer arts festival landscape. Since its inception twenty-eight years ago, more than six million people from New York City and around the world have enjoyed SummerStage. The festival runs from June 4th until August 29th.
