In 1964, Roger Furman, playwright/director/set designer and one of the original members of Harlem's famed American Negro Theatre founded New Heritage Repertory Theatre. In 1984, the theater came under the leadership of Voza Rivers, founding member and current Executive Producer, Andre Robinson, Jr., actor and producer, Phyllis Yvonne Stickney, actress/ producer and Duma Ndlovu, activist and playwright. In 1997, Rivers joined forces with Jamal Joseph, playwright/director/activist and current Executive Artistic Director and together they continue the legacy of New Heritage.

On Monday, October 27, 2014, New Heritage presents "A Season in an Evening: A Night to Remember" in celebration of the theater's 50 years. Actors, musicians, friends and supporters will be treated to an exciting glimpse of history with theatre and music performances by a stellar cast of New Heritage alums and invited guests.

Performers include: jazz musician and former musical director for Luther Vandross, Nat Adderly Jr.; Award winning, classically trained actress and founder of the Harlem Shakespeare festival, Debra Ann Byrd; on-air radio personality WBLS FM/WLIB AM/ WBAI FM and co-songwriter with Stevie Wonder, Gary Byrd; Jazz Singer/Recording artist, Lainie Cooke; South African Singer/Original cast member of Broadway hit Sarafina!, and the Lion King, Ntomb'Khona Diamini; Award winning, icon, and R& B legend, Chuck Jackson; South African musician, actor, original cast member Sarafina! and currently appearing in the Lion King, Ron Kunene; keyboardist and member of Chuck Jackson trio, Etienne Lytle; former member of Bette Midler's Harlettes, Recording Artist and featured vocalist with Luther Vandross, Paulette McWilliams; R& B recording artist Meli'sa Morgan; Broadway and film actress, featured in Clint Eastwood's "Round Midnight," Sandra Reaves-Phillips; international choreographer and former dancer with Alvin Ailey, Obediah Wright's Balance Theatre Company; Harlem's own Oscar and Grammy nominated performing group, Impact Repertory Theatre; and classically trained Japanese pianist and member of Chuck Jackson's band, Toya.

Program hosts are NAACP and multi Audelco award winning actor/writer/director Daniel Beaty and internationally known on air host and playwright Esther Armah.
