SCROOGE AND MARLEY: The Musical Comes to the Hoover-Leppen  Theatre Next Month


From the creative team behind the 2012 indie film Scrooge & Marley, a modern day, queer variation on Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” comes a fully realized musical  version reimagined for the stage. Scrooge & Marley: The Musical follows the familiar outline of the  beloved tale of Ebenezer “Ben” Scrooge – the man who hates the holidays and who is reformed after  memorable visits by three ghostly spirits.

Underscore Theatre Company is pleased to present its third annual CHICAGO MUSICAL THEATRE FESTIVAL, featuring 14 new musical productions. Created to showcase and support Chicago's burgeoning field of musical theatre creators, this year's festival will be held August 9 - 28, 2016 at Victory Gardens Richard Christiansen Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln Ave. in Chicago. Each production will receive four performances during the Festival. The full schedule (Tuesdays - Sundays) and can be found at www.cmtf.org, with tickets currently on sale ($20 per show, $200 all-festival rush passes). The press "sneak preview," featuring a sampling of songs from the 2016 Festival, is Monday, August 8 at 7:30 pm.

BWW Reviews: Hartford Stage's A CHRISTMAS CAROL Gets a Few Updates at its Old Haunt


Apparently quite a few (more than 250,000 have seen the Michael Wilson adaptation getting its 16th run at Hartford Stage). This year's annual holiday tradition gets a bit of an update, all supervised by Wilson and directed by Maxwell Williams, that includes redesigned costumes; enhanced flying effects and choreography for the ghostly apparitions; the introduction of additional characters; and the latest in lighting design technology.
