Emily Louise Franklin BIO

Emily Louise Franklin grew up singing in a house full of performers. Waking up to early morning voice lessons being taught by her mother, Lisa Franklin, was normal in the Franklin home. Her two older siblings, Julia Franklin and Charlie Franklin and younger brother, George Franklin are all working professionally in the industry.

Emily' s first big role was Gretl in The Sound of Music. She got the role at 5 years old. Although Emily was unable to read the sides for the audition, she charmed them with her voice and stage presence, something she still does today! (Emily did learn how to read in kindergarten!)

Emily Louise Franklin is finishing her senior year of High School and plans to study Musical Theatre in the fall. Regional: Dainty June - Gypsy (Capital Repertory 3/14); Fiona - Shrek, Penny Pingleton - Hairspray (Park Playhouse); Amneris - Aida, Maureen - Rent, Brooke Wyndham - Legally Blonde (C-R Productions); Agnes - Meet me in St. Louis (Mac-Haydn); Sewing Girl - Orphan Train (NYSTI); Toffee - Zombie Prom - (NSCP); Kim Macafee - Bye Bye Birdie (SYFI); Cinderella - Into the Woods (Debuts Theater Co.) Emily studies voice with her mom, Lisa Franklin and dances at Orlando's Dance.

Emily's passion is Musical Theatre and she continues to wow audiences with her charm, vocal agility and commanding presence on the stage.

BWW Review: An Officer and a Gentleman at Providence Performing Arts Center

The movie An Officer and a Gentleman came out in 1982 to both critical and popular acclaim, but turning this story into a jukebox musical many years later seems like a strange choice.  The cast in this touring production are across the board excellent, but some of the musical choices seem forced, and the plot seems torn between conveying the serious themes of the movie and wanting to lean into the more cheesy aspects of the 80s.  The result is an odd hodgepodge that suffers from an identity crisis, but is still entertaining thanks to the efforts and talents of the cast.
