There was plenty of excitement in New York City last night.  You were thrilled if you were watching the U.S. Tennis Open or, if you were in the audience at 54 Below as Jason Robert Brown served up a set of electrifying music.   Check out photos here!

Errico has been conquering the scene lately singing all kinds of music from from noir to show tunes to classic soprano fare and is now starting to work with symphonies and she and Stritch have undeniable “chemistry”, making this look like they’ll be teaming up for a while, if the audience has anything to say about it!

There are many performing arts venues in the country and each one possesses varying degrees of acoustics and sound amplification apparatus. However, you can be certain that whatever place Paulo Szot’s voice is heard in the sound qualities of the room become infinitely elevated.  

Ann Hampton Callaway has had many of the world's greatest pianists, arrangers, and music directors accompanying her throughout her celebrated career. Last night at her show 'Jazz Goes To The Movies' sitting on the piano bench at Feinstein's54 Below she had the one who started with her at the very beginning. It was the one who probably knows how to pianistically surround her extraordinary artistry the best and the one who is able to create the harmonies that intertwine most effectively with her prodigious talent. It was Ann Hampton Callaway playing for herself!

It's one thing to be able to act and sing like Brian Stokes Mitchell, but in addition, there is a whole other level of musicianship Brian possesses that enabled him to conceive and create his opening number, 'There's No Business Like Show Business'.  As 'Stokes' pointed out, his musical mind is in sync with his brilliant music director, Tedd Firth.  The two of them have produced an arrangement of this Irving Berlin standard that takes you on a roller coaster ride of meter and key changes.  A little bit of math proficiency was also probably needed because the Stokes/Firth arrangement starts off as a ballad and then weaves it's way through a variety of tempos which include 7/8 & 5/4. It certainly was indicative of the title of his cabaret show, 'Playing With Music.'  

The celebrities turned out for Haley Swindal's last show at Feinstein's/54 Below last night and BroadwayWorld was there.

 Michael Feinstein, the acclaimed Emmy and Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum selling entertainer proudly welcomed everyone to the newly-renamed Feinstein's/54 Below for his annual holiday engagement last night and BroadwayWorld was there.

Scott Coulter brought the music of Studio 54 to Below 54 last night as the club celebrated it's 3rd year on that famous NYC street. In the legendary club's heyday the guest  list was a who's who from the world of entertainment - Andy Warhol, Liza Minnelli, Halston, Elizabeth Taylor, Mick Jagger, Diana Ross, Brooke Shields, John Travolta, Michael Jackson - and the music played kept them dancing all through the night. It was dancing through the night at 54 Below yesterday and Max at the entry door was much more accommodating than those guards at the 1970 Studio 54. After a 54 Below debut in January that the New York Post's Michael Riedel called 'sensational', 'mesmerizing' and 'it brought down the house!', Patrick Page, recently of Casa Valentina, and Broadway's leading bad guy returned for an encore performance at 54 Below.

Continuing August 29 at 7PM, August 30 & 31 at 8PM & August 30 at 11PM at 54 Below is Ann Hampton Callaway and Liz Callaway in SIBLING RIVERLRY. The show is a loosely-based musical autobiography outlining their lives from their childhood in Chicago, to their move to New York City, to the ever-continuing adventures of their luminous careers.

Country music legends Larry Gatlin and The Gatlin Brothers along with celebrated cabaret performer Jamie deRoy performed in an evening of toe tappin' fun last night, April 6th at 54 Below.
