Debora Balardini Biography
Debora Balardini believes that art is only worth and possible if the whole physical body is involved in the process of expression. Be it as a performer, educator, director or producer which she has been doing for the past thirty years in several countries including Japan, Argentina, United States, France, Chile and her native Brazil. Debora has an extensive dance background in ballet, modern dance and tap as well as Hatha Yoga. As an actress, she has been exposed to various physical theater techniques such as Grotowski, Stemwerk, Suzuki, View Points, and most recently Choreographic Theatre and Roy Hart Technique which she studied with the Pantheatre Company in Paris with masters Enrique Pardo and Linda Wise. Some of her credits include the Opera U with the Klingon Terran Research Ensemble from Holland held at the Watermill Center residence program, The Three Penny Opera, The Cherry Orchard and, Don Quixote de La Mancha to mention a few. She performed in Tropiezos, directed by Enrique Pardo in Santiago Chile, at Universidad Mayor in 2010 and can also be seen in A Haunting in Connecticut by Discovery Channel. Debora is a workshop leader and Founder/Artistic Director of the Nettles Artists Collective and along with her business partner, Sandie Luna, just acquired Punto Event Performance Space in Midtown Manhattan. Debora is also the founder of the only Brazilian Theatre Company in New York City, Group.BR for which she directs and performs. Some of her direction works are The Serpent by acclaimed playwright Nelson Rodrigues in honor of his Centennial in 2011 as well as Infinite While It Lasts in honor of Vinicius de Moraes’ Centennial in 2013 and 2014. Her last work in directing was Apple of My Eye (Menina dos Meus Olhos); an original piece written by Tathiana Piancastelli, a 30 year old Brazilian actress with Down syndrome. Debora is currently working on a piece with Jonathan Hart McKawaia.CREDITS

The League of Professional Theatre Women (Shellen Lubin and Catherine Porter, Co-Presidents), an organization which has been championing women in the professional theatre for over three decades, will launch their 37th season of programming, events, and advocacy, with a special event on Wednesday, September 25 at Theaterlab (357 West 36th Street, 3rd Floor, New York, NY 10018). Pre-reception networking will begin at 6:30pm. The event will officially kick-off at 7pm, followed by post-reception networking from 9pm-9:30pm.
