Christyn Budzyna is an award-winning musical theater lyricist. Works include: Baked Goods (2016 Sound Bites Festival, 2017 City Theatre Summer Shorts Festival winner, 2018 Samuel French Off-Off Broadway Short Play Festival winner), Bots! (Beat by Beat Press), The Claw (Beat by Beat Press), The Fox Sisters (Fuse Productions), From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler (developed at the 92Y), The Prince's New Pet (Stimulus Children’s Theatre, Fuse Productions, Utah Story Center), and “The Lights Before Christmas” poem (Performed at the Bryant Park Christmas Tree Lighting Skate-tacular by Jane Krakowski and Alan Cumming). McCarter Theatre Center will workshop the musical adaptation of E.L. Konigsburg's beloved novel, From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Fankweiler, telling the story of 11-year-old Claudia Kincaid and her younger brother Jamie, as they hide out at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

South Carolina New Play Festival Announces 2022 Titles


The South Carolina New Play Festival announced the shows for the city-wide performing arts festival in Greenville, South Carolina, August 12-14. The festival will feature readings of Kate Hamill's The Scarlet Letter, directed by Shelley Butler, Kareem Fahmy's Dodi and Diana, directed by Adrienne Campell-Holt, Adam Ben-David, Christyn Budzyna, and Jessica Penzias' musical From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, directed by West Hyler, and Samantha Miller's Dragonsoul Offline. The festival will end with a cabaret from Jarrod Spector and Kelli Barrett.

Judges Announced For Samuel French OOB Festival


The Samuel French Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival, the nation's premier short play competition, takes place August 21-25 at The Vineyard's Dimson 15th Street Theatre. Chosen from over 850 submissions from the U.S. and abroad, 30 finalist plays and musicals, each running 10-30 minutes in length, will be presented. The Saturday, August 25th presentation is the culmination of the week-long festival at which the Samuel French staff will choose the winning six pieces for licensing and publication in an anthology.

Last night, January 18th, 2016, Theatre Now New York presented its 3nd Annual festival of new musicals, Sound Bites 3.0 (sponsored by Music Theatre International and Disney Theatrical Productions) to a sold-out house at the 47th Street Theatre. An after-party, sponsored by MTI, was held after at Hurley's Saloon where awards were given. Sound Bites showcases ten 10-minute musicals or musical excerpts in one evening.
