Every Christmas we are promised a 'new take' on either Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker and Dickens' A Christmas Carol. The Philharmonia Orchestra has announced the second half of its season as Resident Orchestra at London's Southbank Centre. The full orchestra of 80+ musicians will be joined in the Royal Festival Hall by Featured Artists Julia Bullock and Nicola Benedetti, alongside soloists Bruce Liu, Isabelle Faust, Alexandre Kantorow and more.

In March, the BBC invited young music-makers of all technical abilities, musical backgrounds and styles from across the UK to enter a composition for the BBC Young Composer competition. Applicants were required to submit their entry online, using any instruments and method of composing that suited them.

The two lead cast members and the creative team has been announced for Recognition, Talawa Theatre Company's major new production opening this summer.  Talawa, the UK's outstanding Black theatre company, is presenting the premiere of Recognition at Fairfield Halls, as part of This Is Croydon, London Borough of Culture 2023.  Recognition is inspired by the remarkable life and works of dual-heritage Black classical composer, and Croydon resident, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. 

Talawa Theatre Company, the UK’s outstanding Black theatre company, has an exciting 2023 ahead, including new productions, community projects in Croydon and the return of Talawa Stories and Talawa Firsts. 

Twenty-year old Scottish double bassist Ewan Hastie has won BBC Young Jazz Musician 2022. The announcement was made during the broadcast of the Competition's Final on BBC Four on Sunday 20 November at 8PM,  presented by Jamz Supernova and Huw Stephens, both DJs and broadcasters.

The biennial celebration of the most talented up-and-coming musicians on the British jazz scene, BBC Young Jazz Musician 2022 reaches its climax with a live final at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre on Saturday 19 November, when the five shortlisted finalists – aged 20 to 23 - showcase their talents accompanied by the acclaimed Nikki Yeoh's Infinitum trio.
