Definition Theatre has revealed the finalists of the Amplify Series Three New Play Commissioning Program. 

Definition Theatre announces the Chicago premiere of the 2019 Pulitzer Prize for Drama Fairview by Jackie Sibblies Drury and directed by Artistic Director Tyrone Phillips. Fairview runs from April 28 - May 21, 2023 at The Revival.

Definition Theatre opens its 10th anniversary season with the Chicago premiere of WHITE by ensemble member James Ijames and directed by Ericka Ratcliff. Produced in partnership with Steppenwolf Theatre Company's LookOut Series, WHITE will run in Steppenwolf's 1700 Theater from March 10 – April 10, 2021. 

James Beard Award-winning Chef Rick Bayless and Windy City Playhouse Artistic Director Amy Rubenstein today announced the extension of their immersive production, “A Recipe For Disaster,” written by Bayless, Rubenstein and Windy City Playhouse Associate Artistic Director Carl Menninger and directed by Jeff Award Winner David H. Definition Theatre presents the Chicago premiere of America v.2.1: The Sad Demise & Eventual Extinction of the American Negro by Stacey Rose and directed by Artistic Director Tyrone Phillips. America V.2.1 will stream virtually on demand from November 2 – November 21, 2021. The virtual press opening will stream on November 2, 2021. This production was filmed at the Vittum Theater in Noble Square.

The House Theatre of Chicago continues their 2018 -2019 season with the beloved tale of Pinocchio at The Chopin Theatre upstairs theatre, 1543 W. Division, March 28 - May 19. This world premiere of the classic story inspired by the works of Carlo Collodi has been adapted for the stage by Company Members Joseph Steakley and Ben Lobpries. The House Theatre of Chicago's rendition of Pinocchio features the direction of Company Member Chris Mathews.

On the heels of Artistic Director Robert Falls' world premiere production of Blind Date comes his new adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's An Enemy of the People. Nearly 150 years after Ibsen's masterpiece first thrilled audiences, it "is startling how current the play's ideas feel' (The New York Times) as it examines the complexities of corruption, greed and destruction of the environment and remains "a play so necessary, so exhilarating to experience.' (The Village Voice) When a water contamination crisis puts their community in peril, two brothers-Philip Earl Johnson as Thomas Stockmann, doctor and chief medical officer of the baths and Scott Jaeck as Peter Stockmann, Thomas' older brother and town mayor-face off in a battle of political ambitions and moral integrity.

Falls directs his adaptation, based on a translation by Eleanor Marx-Aveling, with a cast featuring Philip Earl Johnson as Thomas Stockmann, doctor and chief medical officer of the baths; Scott Jaeck as Peter Stockmann, Thomas' older brother and town mayor; Lanise Antoine Shelley as Katherine, Thomas' wife; Rebecca Hurd as Thomas' daughter, Petra. Rounding out the cast are Jesse Bhamrah (Billing), David Darlow (Morten Kiil), Allen Gilmore (Aslaksen), Aubrey Deeker Hernandez (Hovstad), Larry Neumann, Jr. (The Drunk) and Carley Cornelius, Arya Daire, Guy Massey, Roderick Peeples and Dustin Whitehead as townspeople.

Funny, too, and Buzz Center Stage deeming the show funny and provocative.

Windy City Playhouse's critically acclaimed production of Gina Gionfriddo's Becky Shaw has extended its run through December 10. Directed by Jeff Award winner Scott Weinstein, the show opened on September 28 to highly favorable reviews, with Chris Jones of Chicago Tribune calling it wise, complex, and really very moving. Funny, too, and Buzz Center Stage deeming the show funny and provocative. Picture This Post said it was impeccably directed and Performink called it a must see.
