Playwright Pearl Cleage's WHAT I LEARNED IN PARIS---now on stage at South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa through March 19, 2022---takes place during the historic win of Atlanta's first black mayor in 1973 and focuses on a romantic triangle between a young campaign staffer and two much older men she works with at the election HQ.

The LCT SPOTLIGHT SERIES, Lincoln Center Theater’s free program of digital events, will continue on Thursday, April 29 with an audio performance of Bill Gunn’s 1989 play, THE FORBIDDEN CITY.  Directed by Seret Scott, THE FORBIDDEN CITY’s cast of 11 will feature James T. The rooms of historic Carrick Hill are set to overflow with Christmas spirit this year with a series of special floral arrangements with a Christmas theme entitled Glorious Flowers. The displays may be viewed from Wednesday 29 November to Sunday 3 December.

Notwithstanding the lingering leeriness I feel about going to see them, one-person shows can be memorable and truly special. Billy Crystal's 700 Sundays, Frank Gorshin's Say Goodnight, Gracie and Colin Quinn's Long Story Short stand out as the best that I've seen by men, while I'd point to Julie Harris's Belle of Amherst, Lily Tomlin's The Search for Intelligent Life in the Universe, and Tova Feldshuh's Golda's Balcony as the best by women - plus two more at Spoleto this year, Avital Lvova's Angel and Ayodele Casel's While I Have the Floor.
