Annie is an English teacher. Louisa and Harry are her best friends. Harry wants to marry Annie. Annie doesn't want to marry Harry. And Louisa isn't quite sure what she wants. In a coffee shop in some suburban somewhere, three forty-somethings are trying to figure out their lives… or where exactly they went wrong.
White Elephant is a play about love and loneliness, commitment and companionship—all wrapped up in a funny, romantic-comedy-shaped holiday gift box. But if it’s a rom-com, why doesn’t it seem like anyone is really in love? And if it’s a Christmas story, why are there thunderstorms instead of snow? Plus, what does Frank O’Hara have to do with King Lear, and what does King Lear have to do with Santa Claus?
