The NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) Institute in New York will present a discussion with Michael Strevens, a Professor of Philosophy at New York University, on the usefulness of irrationality in science at the NYU Abu Dhabi Institute in New York on April 4th from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM—at 19 Washington Square N New York, NY 10011.
The talk will take listeners through the history of science from Aristotle to Einstein and will explore what makes modern science so powerful—and so different from the attempts made by early philosophers.
Michael Strevens writes about the philosophy of science and the complexity of the nature of thought. In his most recent book, The Knowledge Machine, Strevens sets out to explain how modern science works so well and why irrationality is required for greater results. He argues that much of science’s power derives from a philosophic limitation that can only be understood as irrational.
