Spirit of the Game: The Ultimate Musical is an original dramedy about disgraced high school football star, Johnny Diskakis, who gets a chance at redemption when he joins the Greek National Mixed Ultimate Frisbee team.

Johnny and his dad, Yiorgos, find themselves relegated from the U.S. to their ancestral home on the island of Crete. There, Johnny meets local athletic phenom and team captain, Thina, who woos Johnny on to the Greek National Mixed squad with immediate results. As he battles past demons, mixed signals from Thina, and Yiorgos’ disapproval, Johnny may ultimately discover what winning is all about.

Written by Philip Vlahakis, a New York-based musical theater writer and former world champion ultimate frisbee player, the show was a 2025 winning selection of the Florida Festival of New Musicals. Free Line Media Orlando hailed it as: “A sharp and quick-witted musical that mixes a rock score with some traditional Greek music and even a Greek chorus, it’s great fun getting wrapped up in Johnny’s quest for redemption.”
