Julie Fowlis, her ethereal voice and her energetic band will rouse audiences at The Alden on Sunday, Oct. 30, at 4 p.m. This is not your typical Celtic music concert; Fowlis performs in the rarely heard language of Scottish Gaelic, which is spoken by less than one percent of the Scottish population. Tickets are $25, $18 for McLean tax district residents. The theatre is located at 1234 Ingleside Ave.
Fowlis is a passionate torchbearer for the culture of her native Western Isles and the music of the Outer Hebrides and Highlands of Scotland. As specialized as her music is, the Daily Telegraph predicted that "Fowlis could be the first Scottish Gaelic crossover star in the making." Speaking in a press release issued on Sept. 19, Fowlis said, "This will be a very special tour as I, along with the band, will be performing some lesser heard tracks rarely performed live in concert before."
