Sunday, June 25, 5 – 8pm
Monday, June 26, 7:30 – 9:30pm

Callbacks (if called) – Thursday, June 29th, 7:30 – 9:30pm

When the PTA from Edgewater, Indiana, cancels the senior prom to block a lesbian student from bringing her date, four New York stars in search of a cause swoop in to save the day. A new musical comedy is “so filled with happiness that you think your heart is about to burst” (Variety).

The Ridgefield Theater Barn is proud to announce auditions for The Prom, an inclusive, boundary-challenging, thought-provoking, incredibly timely, contemporary musical comedy. We seek a diverse, open-minded, and honest cast of performers to fill a wide range of roles. Members of the LGBTQ+ community are strongly encouraged to audition.

Performances:

Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, September 8th – 30th

Sundays at 5pm, September 10, 17, and 24

Thursday, September 28, 8pm (Alcohol-Free Night)

Rehearsals: Rehearsals will begin the week of Monday, July 10 (3-4 days per week) and continue until and through Labor Day weekend (which begins Tech Week). Precise schedule TBD once cast.

Tech Week: Saturday, September 2, 10:30am – 2:30pm – Sitz Probe

Sunday, September 3, 3pm – 8:00pm

Monday-Thursday, September 4 – 7, 7:30pm – 10:30pm

Audition Requirements

Please prepare a brief cut of a song to share. Please sing whatever song shows you off best!

Bring sheet music or a backing track, whichever is easier for you. Download or save the backing track locally to not rely on WIFI. Consider a duet with a friend if nerves have you tied in a knot.

We will also do some choreography at the auditions, so wear something comfortable.

Bring a resume detailing your theatre experience, or be prepared to list your performance experience.

Bring your schedule and be prepared to list conflicts through September 30, 2023.

The Prom Character Breakdown

Emma: A high school senior. Forced into the spotlight after she asked her girlfriend to the prom. A reluctant poster child for LGBTQ+ youth. Very smart & a bit of a tomboy quality. Mix/belt up to a C#. Identification or familiarity with the LGBTQ+ community is an asset.

Alyssa: A high school senior. Tries desperately to fit in. A cheerleader. Secretly Emma’s girlfriend, but afraid to come out. Afraid to stand up to her mother. Mix/belt up to a D. Identification or familiarity with the LGBTQ+ community is an asset.

Barry: 30’s – 50’s. Self-involved Broadway actor eager for celebrity activism to promote his career. Finds a kindred spirit in Emma and guides her to be true and proud of herself. High Baritone/Low Tenor. Identification or familiarity with the LGBTQ+ community is an asset.

Dee Dee: 30’s – 60’s. A current Broadway diva. A huge ego to match her huge talent. No filter. Hilariously self-involved, but yearns to do something good for someone other than herself. Alto.

Angie: 30’s – 40’s. An ensemble member in the Broadway production of “Chicago”. Jaded Fosse girl with a heart of gold who champions Emma’s cause and teaches her how to live life with Zazz! Alto with a belt.

Trent: 20’s – 40’s. A pretentious, “Julliard Trained,” yet struggling, Broadway actor who loves the sound of his own voice. He utilizes his small TV celebrity to teach the students about tolerance. Baritone.

Mr. Hawkins: 30’s – 60’s. A small town principal & star-struck Broadway fan. Easily flustered and sometimes straight-laced. An ally to and advocate for Emma. High Baritone.

Mrs. Greene: 30’s – 60’s. Alyssa’s Mother and the school board president. Very strong, controlling and intimidating. Loves her daughter very much but has a very specific view of what is right and wrong for her daughter and the school. Alto.

Sheldon: 20’s – 40’s. Charismatic and devoted Broadway publicist working his skills and connections to build his clients’ celebrity status and create an audience for Emma’s message.

High Schoolers: Indiana high schoolers who struggle together to create a place for everyone at the dance.

Godspell Cast/PTA Parents: Concerned parents swayed by Mrs. Greene’s traditional arguments yet ready to follow their children’s guidance.
