Sierra Stages to Present Magical Comedy this Spring at the Nevada Theatre in Nevada City

Sierra Stages is pleased to announce Open Auditions for its spring 2013 production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, one of Shakespeare’s most popular and enduring comedies. The show will run from February 28 through March 23, 2013 at the Nevada Theatre in Nevada City. The director is Jac Royce. The creative staff includes Mike Edwards (set design), Sharon Olson (costume design) and Erin Beatie (lighting design).

Spells are cast, lovers are fooled and revelry flourishes as worlds collide in Shakespeare’s imaginative comedy. On a night when anything can happen, young lovers rouse their mischievous curiosity of fairies, which use their charm to lead the couple into a playful midnight frolic through the forest. In the midst of it all, an acting troupe gets caught up in the chaos when a magic spell turns their leading man into a donkey. “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” blurs the line between magic and reality, leading to a night so fantastical you have to dream it to believe it.

Auditions will be in the form of a workshop conducted by the director Jac Royce. Auditions/workshops will be held on two dates:  Saturday, November 10 & Saturday November 17. Each audition/workshop will be held from 12 noon to 3:00 pm at the Off Center Stage, 315 Richardson Street, Grass Valley. All roles are open. Actors are asked to sign up for one of the dates (either November 10 or November 17) and will be expected to attend and participate in the entire 3 hour workshop. Sign-ups and additional information may be found on the “Auditions” page of the Sierra Stages website at www.SierraStages.org. Callbacks will be scheduled during the week of November 18. For questions, please send an e-mail to auditions@sierrastages.org or call Sierra Stages at (530) 346-3210.
