The 39 Steps, the Tony Award-winning stage adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock's 1935 film classic, closes out Bergen County Players' 93rd season at the Little Firehouse Theatre in Oradell. Adapted by Patrick Barlow, the play follows Richard Hannay, thrust into a cross-country manhunt after a mysterious woman is murdered in his flat, blending film noir suspense with physical comedy and inventive stagecraft. In a feat of theatrical ingenuity, just four actors — Craig Ernest Woodward, NJ Pfautsch, Joshua Switala, and Paul Aiello — portray over 150 characters, sometimes switching identities with nothing more than the swap of a hat. Directed by BCP life member Steve Bell, the production runs May 2 through May 31.
