Young Washington is a new historical drama directed and co-written by Jon Erwin that explores the formative years of America’s first president long before the Revolutionary War and the founding of the nation. Set during the French and Indian War, the film follows a young George Washington as a single military mistake thrusts him into a dangerous international conflict that tests his courage, leadership, and character. The movie stars William Franklyn-Miller as Washington, alongside an impressive supporting cast that includes Ben Kingsley, Andy Serkis, Kelsey Grammer, and Mary-Louise Parker. The film is rated PG-13 for sequences of war violence and some bloody images and has a runtime of approximately 2 hours and 5 minutes. (Fandango)

One of the film’s most distinctive features is its focus on Washington’s little-known early military career rather than his presidency, portraying him as an ambitious and flawed young man learning from failure. Early festival and industry reactions have been highly encouraging. The Tribeca Festival described the production as an “extraordinarily ambitious period piece” and praised its “exemplary performances,” while noting that the film announces Franklyn-Miller as “a star to watch.” Reviewers have also highlighted the movie’s large-scale battle sequences, historical authenticity, and timely release during America’s 250th anniversary celebrations. By concentrating on Washington’s personal growth and leadership development, Young Washington aims to present a fresh and inspiring portrait of one of history’s most influential figures.
