Children's Theatre Company (CTC) has long been the only theatre in the U.S.A. granted permission to develop and produce original productions based on the work of Dr. Seuss. CTC first brought The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins to the stage and then were the creators of the stage production of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Continuing in this tradition, CTC will present the U.S. premiere of the National Theatre of Great Britain's adaptation of Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat on the Cargill Stage beginning September 25.

The Guthrie Theater today announced "Discover Shakespeare," a video contest for ages 14-18 tied into the Guthrie WorldStage presentation of Propeller's production of Twelfth Night running from February 27-April 6, 2013. The contest will begin September 14, with a submission period ending December 31 and a winner announced in February, 2013. The winning entrant's school will receive a video camera courtesy of National Camera Exchange.

Stages Theatre Company (STC) launches its 2012-13 season with the world premiere of "Duck for President" (a New York Times #1 bestseller) by Doreen Cronin, opening Sept. 21 at the Hopkins Center for the Arts. "Duck for President" directed by Marilee Mahler is a barnyard romp featuring Charles, the irresistibly funny duck, who decides to run for president. Adding an animal twist to this American tradition, Playwright Jennifer Kirkeby and Composer Shirley Mier combine to create an entertaining musical production that is full of recounts and sticky ballots. "There is humor, heart, laughs, great songs, a fantastic cast and crew, secret service wolves, and of course the show will help inform the audience who they should vote for during the next presidential election…DUCK!" says Kirkeby.

Kicking off its 61st season, Minneapolis' Theatre in the Round presents the hilariously irreverent and uniquely relevant Greek classic, LYSISTRATA. First performed in 411 B.C., the show's lewd humor is still enthralling audiences today-and rightfully so. Artistic Director Jack Reuler directs the powerhouse musical, which was also nominated for 11 Tony Awards. Penumbra Announces Spring Season Steps Up to Latest Fiscal Challenges

Penumbra Theatre Company announced today that it has decided to temporarily suspend programming due to an immediate cash flow challenge. If the fall fundraising efforts are successful, Penumbra will present SPUNK, an adaptation by George C. Wolfe of three tales by Zora Neale Hurston in March 2013 along with the popular Let's Talk Theatre and REEL Talk events. However, strong dedicated support for the Penumbra Summer Institute, a three-year arts education and leadership training program, will enable that program to continue as scheduled.
