Individual tickets for Minneapolis Musical Theatre's (MMT) Reefer Madness and Sunset Boulevard go on sale at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 5. These productions, featured on MMT's 2013 Season and directed by their artistic director Steven Meerdink, are being presented as part of a new partnership between MMT and Hennepin Theatre Trust at the New Century Theatre, 615 Hennepin Avenue in downtown Minneapolis. Reefer Madness is a raucous musical comedy about the perils of marijuana which runs February 1-24, 2013. Sunset Boulevard is the Broadway hit based on the Oscar-winning movie about faded glory and thwarted ambition which runs May 31-June 23. Stages Theatre Company Launches a Five-City Tour of THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK

Stages Theatre Company (STC) begins a five-city tour of "The Diary of Anne Frank," an emotional and historical account of her experiences while hiding during the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War II. The five-city tour is part of the Stories for the Stage, an arts-integrated residency and touring project that provides selected middle schools with 60 hours of theatre arts residency programming. Concluding the arts residency is a free, public performance of "The Diary of Anne Frank" produced by STC. This professional production is performed by eight adult actors and two STC youth actors.

CTC first brought The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins to the stage and then were the creators of the stage production of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Continuing in this tradition, CTC will presents U.S. premiere of the National Theatre of Great Britain's adaptation of Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat on the Cargill Stage, now through December 2, 2012. Tickets are now on sale for The Secret Garden, Minnetonka High School's 10th annual fall musical under the Artistic Direction of Kent Knutson. The award-winning theatre department is excited to celebrate this landmark with the whole community by presenting a classic, family friendly production based on the beloved Victorian tale. Running from November 2 to 17 on the Arts Center on 7 Main Stage, it also will show the student's versatile talents as they follow up their more recent performances of Legally Blonde, Dracula, and The Phantom of the Opera.

Kicking off its 50th season, Minneapolis' own Guthrie Theater debuted Christopher Hampton's, TALES FROM HOLLYWOOD, a dizzyingly dark and absurdist comedy of the lives and work of Bertolt Brecht, Heinrich and Thomas Mann, and their emigre (or more appropriately-exiled) novelists and screen-writers as they flee Nazi-occupied Europe for Los Angeles. Fascism, capitalism and the role of the writer are at odds as director, Ethan McSweeny, cleverly weaves historical insight into this 'film within a play' staging style, taking audiences on a whirlwind of philosophical discourse and witty banter.

Today Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak and St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman issued a joint proclamation declaring September 21, 2012, Christopher Hampton Day in both cities. The announcement comes on the same day as the opening of Hampton's Tales from Hollywood on the Wurtele Thrust Stage at the Guthrie, the beginning of the Guthrie's celebration of Hampton's work and the first show of its 50th season.

Stages Theatre Company (STC) launches its 2012-13 season with the world premiere of "Duck for President" (a New York Times #1 bestseller) by Doreen Cronin, opening Sept. 21 at the Hopkins Center for the Arts. "Duck for President" directed by Marilee Mahler is a barnyard romp featuring Charles, the irresistibly funny duck, who decides to run for president. Adding an animal twist to this American tradition, Playwright Jennifer Kirkeby and Composer Shirley Mier combine to create an entertaining musical production that is full of recounts and sticky ballots. "There is humor, heart, laughs, great songs, a fantastic cast and crew, secret service wolves, and of course the show will help inform the audience who they should vote for during the next presidential election…DUCK!" says Kirkeby.
