Bloomington Civic Theatre Presents SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, Now thru 11/17

Bloomington Theatre and Art Center (BTAC) has announced Bloomington Civic Theatre's production of Stephen Sondheim's Sunday In The Park With George, running tonight, October 19 through November 17, 2012. This musical will be directed by Karen Weber, with associate director Rob Goudy, music director Anita Ruth, and featuring Jennifer Eckes as 'Dot' and Joey Clark as 'Georges Seurat'. BCT's production of Sunday In The Park With George is sponsored by BMO Harris Bank.
Guthrie Theater Lifetime Board Director Polly Grose to sign copies of GUTHRIE THEATER: THE FIRST FIFTY YEARS, 10/21

The Guthrie Theater today announced that lifetime Board Director Polly Grose will be on hand at the theater on October 21 following the matinee performances to sign copies of her book Guthrie Theater: The First Fifty Years. A collection of essays selected and compiled by Grose, the book provides compelling first-hand perspectives from luminaries throughout the Guthrie's history and members of the Twin Cities community, spiced through with no-holds-barred opinion and curated by Grose's own affectionate and knowledgeable viewpoint on the Guthrie.
Hennepin Theatre Trust Announces 56 Schools Participating in the 2012-13 SpotLight Musical Theatre Program

Hennepin Theatre Trust today announced that 56 schools will participate in the 2012-13 SpotLight Musical Theatre Program, including five new schools and nine from greater Minnesota. Now in its eighth successful year, SpotLight is the Trust's flagship education initiative which honors, supports, provides training and advocates for Minnesota high school musical theatre students and programs. A full list of participants is included at the end of this press release. Fall and spring 2012-13 performance schedules for SpotLight high school musicals are available by request and online at HennepinTheatreTrust.org.
PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT Tickets Go On Sale in Minneapolis, 10/19

Hennepin Theatre Trust announced today that individual tickets for Priscilla Queen of the Desert, the musical about three friends on the road trip of a lifetime, will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012. Called "a rollicking crowd-pleaser in sequins" by Variety, Priscilla will make its national tour debut at the Trust's Orpheum Theatre January 8-13, 2013. Beginning at 10 a.m., tickets will be sold online through HennepinTheatreTrust.org, in person at the State Theatre Box Office or by calling 1.800.982.2787 or visiting a Ticketmaster Ticket Center. It is part of Hennepin Theatre Trust's 2012/13 Broadway Across America-Minneapolis Season. Press opening night will be Wednesday, January 9.

The Twin Cities Horror Festival is has announced the full 2012 festival schedule. For ten days this fall, seven different groups present 5 performances each in an exploration of the genres of horror through a multitude of performance disciplines at the Southern Theater. The festival features local theater, storytelling, dance and music artists presenting their take on the theme of "horror." The festival will present more than 30 performances over two weekends with a free costume and dance party from 5:30pm-9:30pm on Halloween Night.

Appomattox, a sprawling political epic by Christopher Hampton taking place in 1865 and 1965 at the close of the American Civil War and the pivotal Civil Rights Era, opened Friday, October 5 at the Guthrie Theater to continue the Hampton Celebration. The play runs until November 11 on the Guthrie's McGuire Proscenium Stage, and is directed by David Esbjornson (Broadway/London: Driving Miss Daisy, A Few Good Men; Broadway: The Goat or Who is Sylvia?, The Ride Down Mt. History Theatre has announced its 35th season, which will kick-off with the Minnesota premiere of the Broadway hit Lombardi by Eric Simonson. The show will feature Jim Detmar as Vince Lombardi and Norah Long as Marie Lombardi, and promises to be a funny and passionate look at an American icon. For its 2012 season closer, the Jungle Theater presents the regional premiere of IN THE NEXT ROOM (or The Vibrator Play), one of Broadway's latest mega-hits. This 2010 Tony-nominated comedy about marriage, intimacy and electricity is directed by Sarah Rasmussen, who worked with playwright Sarah Ruhl (The Clean House, Eurydice) on the original Broadway production. Set in the Victorian era, just before corseted women shed their inhibitions, this funny, smart and provocative play concerns the early history of the vibrator, when doctors used it as a clinical device to treat women for "hysteria." In the Next Room opens November 2 and runs through December 16 at the Lyn-Lake theater at 2951 Lyndale Avenue S., in Minneapolis.
