HBCA Awards Stages Theatre Co The Non-Profit Of The Year Award

The Hopkins Business and Civic Association (HBCA) awarded Stages Theatre Company (STC) with the 2009 Nonprofit of the Year award last Thursday.

"STC has introduced thousands of children to the magic and delight of live theatre. STC believes in community as evidenced by their membership in HBCA and involvement in community events," stated a representative from the HBCA.

Each year, HBCA members are asked to submit nominations for Nonprofit of the Year, Business of the Year and Person of the Year via online, mail or fax. A committee is formed after the submission deadline to select the award recipients. As part of the HBCA annual meeting each year, the awards are announced.

"This is a great honor for our organization, and we are truly thankful and humbled by the Hopkins Business and Civic Association's decision to award Stages Theatre Company," says Sandy Boren-Barrett, artistic director for STC.

Stages Theatre Company was founded in 1984 and since then has grown to become one of the largest professional theatres for young audiences in the country. Through theatrical productions, workshops, conservatory classes and other outreach programs, Stages Theatre Company annually serves more than 125,000 young people and their families.
