The Dysmorphic Diva at Hudson Guild

Actor and singer Karen Macarah will perform her world premiere The Dysmorphic Diva, a “confessional cabaret” about one woman’s journey from self-deprecation to self-acceptance and self-love. Embodying various comedic characters, and singing from beloved Broadway musicals from the middle of the twentieth century until today, this Dysmorphic Diva will dazzle and disarm you with numbers she’s performed in theaters around the country, as well as stories from her life. Incorporating humorous and personal multimedia elements, and featuring songs from “Cabaret,” “Falsettos,” “Grey Gardens,” “The Band’s Visit,” “The Prom,” “Merrily We Roll Along” and others, you’ll be feeling like life is indeed a cabaret when you walk out of this uplifting show.

Karen Macarah is a writer and performer from Los Angeles.  She wrote, produced and performed a one-woman show, Wine Time With Roni in Hollywood Fringe and United Solo in NYC, as well as co-wrote, produced and performed in a musical/song cycle entitled Five, themed around the five stages of grief, also in Hollywood Fringe (Encore Award winner). She's performed with a number of local theater companies in and around Los Angeles, as well as in major motion pictures including Are You There God It's Me Margaret and The Disaster Artist. Favorite roles over the years include Mama Rose in "Gypsy," Mary in "Merrily We Roll Along," the Witch in "Into the Woods," and Edith/Young Edie in “Grey Gardens.”

Please note that the performance on *Sunday June 28, 7:30 PM is a “gala” benefiting St. Baldrick’s Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation and tickets include a party afterward with food and drinks are $50. Every dollar raised at the benefit will be matched.
