Enjoy great films, complimentary beverages, audience Q&As and networking opportunities with the filmmakers, industry professionals and fellow film lovers!NewFilmmakers Los Angeles (NFMLA) invites you to celebrate up-and-coming female talent behind the camera with this months InFocus: Female Cinema. The days programming includes two programs rich with a variety of stories, genres and perspectives from female filmmakers, and concludes with an exciting new feature by writer-director Rachel Wortell. The evening begins with a shorts program that presents a combination of documentaries and narratives that tackle the experiences found in the overlap between sexuality, homelessness, mental health, disability, and cultural context. The stories we get to delve into include LGBTQ+ teen homelessness, deafness in Latinx communities, the cultural narrative around women and sex, and Jessie Adlers look at suicide in the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe in her documentary, Boxers of Brule. The program continues with the second shorts program, which includes stories of women and intuition, the frustrations of motherhood, female friendship, intergenerational conflict, and Kirsten Vangsnesss directorial debut, the beautifully animated and uncannily vivid representation of an experience of a lack of safety all too familiar to many, Curtains. The nights line-up concludes with feature film Romance Analyst, a surreal, contemplative and undeniably funny look at one womans relationship with her mental health, written and directed by Rachel Wortell.NFMLA showcases films by filmmakers of all backgrounds throughout the year in addition to its special InFocus programming which celebrates diversity, inclusion and region. All filmmakers are welcome and encouraged to submit their projects which will be considered for all upcoming NFMLA Festivals, regardless of the InFocus programming.First come, first served.
