MY SON THE PLAYWRIGHT features Justin Tanner in a deeply personal exploration of a father-son relationship. Set against the backdrop of Douglas's apartment in Salinas, California, the play unfolds as he grapples with his emotions while awaiting his son's arrival, weaving through memories filled with humor and tension. Tanner's portrayal captures both the father's regrets and the son's hesitations as they confront decades of estrangement and longing for connection. This immersive theatrical experience draws out the complexities of love, jealousy, and the pursuit of redemption.
Justin Tanner works as a creative consultant for numerous projects in theatre, film, and television and has credits including more than 20 produced plays as well as credits writing TV shows and web series. I decided to speak with him about the process of writing such a personal play.
Rogue Machine Theatre will open Season 18 on October 4, 2025, with four L.A. premieres including Lauren Gunderson’s anthropology and Jackie Sibblies Drury’s Fairview. The season also features Fringe participation and the Playwright’s Roundtable Festival.
