BRENDA WACHEL’S IN THE DEEP BRINGS A STORY OF LOSS AND UNCERTAINTY TO LA FEMME INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

Dramatic short screens Friday, October 23, at Regal Cinemas Sherman Oaks Galleria

One night, Marga’s fiancé disappears without a trace. With no body and no answers, she is left suspended between hope and the possibility that she may never know what happened. Brenda Wachel’s dramatic short In the Deep follows Marga as a stranger’s story forces her to confront the truth she has struggled to face.

The film will screen at the 22nd LA Femme International Film Festival on Friday, October 23, at 6 p.m. at Regal Cinemas Sherman Oaks Galleria.

In the Deep stars Maria Bata (Hollywood Grit), Evan Gamble (The Vampire Diaries), Gui Agustini (The Time Traveler’s Wife), Whitney Anderson (NCIS: Los Angeles), Taylor Nichols (Babylon, Tracker) and Jaime Alvarez (Sugar). Wachel wrote, directed and produced the film, with Marciann Shapiro serving as executive producer. Cameron Owen was the cinematographer, Trevor Armstrong composed the music, and Roger Cooper and Gib Jaffe edited the film.

The short marks Wachel’s narrative directing debut. A longtime script supervisor, she has worked on feature films including I Am Sam, October Sky, Collateral and Hidalgo. Her film Democracy won the 2024 Spark the Vote Award, and she is developing two feature films.

In the Deep made its world premiere at the Oscar qualifying LA Shorts International Film Festival.
