On Sunday, June 28, performer Trip Kennedy will take the stage at Visionarium in South Pasadena as the featured presentation of Linda A. Smith's Jazz Brunch Series with a lively musical tribute celebrating the 100th birthday of comedy legend Mel Brooks.
What Kennedy didn't know when he began developing the show was that he and Brooks share the exact same birthday.
While Brooks marks his remarkable centennial birthday, Kennedy will celebrate his own 62nd birthday, creating an unexpected and highly personal connection to an artist whose work has influenced generations of performers and audiences.
Part celebration, part cabaret, and part love letter to one of America's greatest comic minds, the afternoon will feature music, stories, laughter, and memories inspired by Brooks's extraordinary career. From Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles to Spaceballs and The Producers, Brooks has spent nearly a century proving that comedy can be outrageous, intelligent, fearless, and deeply human all at once.
