Long Beach Symphony presents a sweeping orchestral celebration of the people, experiences and ideals that have shaped America, conducted by Music Director Eckart Preu with Grammy Award-winning cellist Zuill Bailey. The program spans works from The Star-Spangled Banner and Aaron Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man to James P. Johnson's Harlem Symphony and Gershwin's Strike Up the Band. At its heart is Visions of Humanity and Unity, a new five-movement cello concerto by composers Mark O'Connor, Avner Dorman, Enrico Chapela, Zhou Tian and Chanda Dancy, receiving its Southern California premiere. The 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Band will perform a pre-concert set and join the orchestra onstage for the national anthem.
