The Bilingual Foundation of the Arts (BFA) is proud to present a bold, bilingual adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet titled "Romeo y Julieta Bilingüe", directed by acclaimed theater artist Adrián Genesius Barrón. This spirited production will premiere on Saturday, June 21st at 8:00 PM at Plaza de la Raza, as part of the Lincoln Park Theater Festival.
Starring Victor Parra as Romeo and Cristina Glezoro as Julieta, this lively adaptation blends the poetic power of Shakespeare’s original text with the vibrant rhythms, humor, and passion of Mexican culture. The performance will be delivered bilingually—English and Spanish—inviting audiences from all backgrounds to experience the enduring story of love and conflict with fresh eyes and a renewed spirit.
“While the essence of Romeo and Juliet remains intact,” says director Adrian Genesius Barron, “this version celebrates the color, music, and soul of Latine identity, giving the story a playful and emotional edge that resonates deeply with our community.”
This unique reimagining captures the heartache of forbidden love and family rivalry, while infusing it with the joy, color, and communal energy that defines Mexican storytelling traditions. Expect bursts of humor, and emotionally charged performances that speak directly to today’s multicultural Los Angeles.
