BUTCH BALLET is a movement theatre work created by award-winning writer and director gina young, centering butch lesbians, trans men, and nonbinary mascs in a series of intimate vignettes exploring tenderness and queer joy. The near-wordless piece uses ballet elements such as pas de deux and pas de quatre, featuring an ensemble cast known as the Corps de Butch in scenes set in spaces like locker rooms, hiking trails, and ballet barres. The work is performed by Maze Felix, Anna Moceri, María Jurado, Rae Eubanks, and Denise Jones, with a creative team including composer Ames Bessada, movement architect Codi Gentle, and costume designer X. Hill. BUTCH BALLET is a co-production between SORORITY and Outside In Theatre, originally developed for REDCAT's New Original Works Festival 2017 and supported by a MAP Fund Grant.
