The latest installment of Sound/Stage comes to life tonight, May 23, 2012 at the historic El Cid, featuring SPACE ROVER, a one-act play directed by cARTel founding member Jack De Sena, written by cARTel playwright Matt Chester, featuring an exciting cast of young LA comedy staples. The show begins at 9.30pm.

Sound/Stage is series of live recordings of original one-act radio plays by some of L.A’s most exciting and captivating writers paired with brilliant voice artists, actors and musicians to create a truly special, collaborative experience. Mixing old Hollywood glamour with new technology, we strive to stretch our audiences’ imagination and allow them to revel in repurposing the past.

Matt Chester is a playwright and screenwriter. He has written three previous cARTel productions: The Fabulous Adventures of Alan Swift, Two Figures and the Living-Room Tour production of Epilogue. He is also a semi-retired member of the famous cARTel clown troupe. He has a Hollywood Fringe Festival show In Dream, that he would really like you to check out. And he regularly performs improv and sketch comedy with a bunch of knuckleheads that call themselves The Younger Statesmen. And in case you're wondering, yes, he did come up with the idea for this show when he was nine.

Jack De Sena, founding member of cARTel, is best known for his work as Sokka on the beloved Nickelodeon animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender. He also starred on the sketch comedy series All That for four years and during his run, tied with Logan Lerman for the 2005 Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a TV Series. In 2008, De Sena was named a Webby Honoree for Best Writing Comedy: Individual Short or Episode for the popular webseries Dorm Life, and currently stars in Hulu’s first original series, Battleground, co-produced by Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer, The Amazing Spiderman). Studied Drama at UCLA.

In addition to their signature cocktails, El Cid will feature a special Sound/Stage tapas menu. A limited number of $10 seats will be made available to the public on Friday, May 18th at www.wearecartel.org.
