Jefferson Mays in A CHRISTMAS CAROL: A GHOST STORY & More Set for Rubicon Theatre Company 26-27
The season will also feature John & Jen 30th Anniversary, The Lehman Trilogy and more.
Rubicon Theatre Company has revealed the lineup for the 28th Season at the award-winning Southern California company, featuring five dramas, comedies, and musicals that explore the enduring power of family, community, memory, and shared humanity.
The season starts in the winter, with Tony Award-Winner Jefferson Mays (I Am My Own Wife, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder) in his Rubicon debut, in a one-man version of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story, that must be seen to be believed! Next up is a bold new production of John & Jen, written by Andrew Lippa and Tom Greenwald. Celebrating its 30th Anniversary, this musical explores the imperfect-yet-enduring love of a sister and brother through the lens of a South Asian family in an ever-changing America.
Winner of the 2022 Tony Award for Best Play, The Lehman Trilogy by Stefano Massini, chronicles the 163-year history of the Lehman family and their investment firm, from their arrival as Bavarian immigrants in 1844 to the firm's spectacular collapse in 2008, which triggered the global financial crisis. Told by just three actors playing multiple roles, the play is a sweeping saga of ambition, capitalism, and the American dream, exploring themes of family, identity, and the price of unchecked success.
In late spring, they will present the Ventura County Premiere of Murder for Two by Kellen Blair and JoeKinosian, a madcap musical comedy that blends murder mystery with vaudevillian flair. With two performers playing all the roles (and the piano!), sharp wit, clever wordplay, and a tuneful score; Murder for Two is an irresistible theatrical romp. Our season closes in the fall of 2027 with Come From Away by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, the uplifting and unforgettable musical about compassion, community, and hope in extraordinary times. Come From Away will be co-directed by Ventura native and Rubicon alumni Andrew Samonsky, a Broadway veteran who toured the U.S. in the most recent National Tour of the show.
Dickens’ A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story
December 2 - 24, 2026
By Jefferson Mays, Susan Lyons, and Michael Arden
Starring Tony Award-Winner Jefferson Mays
The timeless tale of Ebenezer Scrooge comes to thrilling new life as Tony Award-winner Jefferson Mays (I Am My Own Wife, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder) plays over 50 roles - from Scrooge and Marley to Tiny Tim and the three Ghosts, in this virtuosic master class in performance that must be seen to be believed!
John & Jen, 30th Anniversary Production
February 10 - 28, 2027
Music by Andrew Lippa | Lyrics & Book by Tom Greenwald
Directed by Erin Ortman | Music Supervision by Alexander Gemignani
Dramaturgy by Arnab Banerji | Starring Ari Afsar & Nikhil Saboo
Spanning nearly 40 decades, John & Jen traces the evolving relationship between a sister and brother, and later, a mother and son. Reframed through the experience of a South Asian immigrant family, this production foregrounds the pressures of assimilation, the cost of silence, and the ways national identity shapes private lives. What emerges is a story not only about family, but about inheritance – what we carry, what we bury, and what we are finally able to say out loud. John & Jen becomes a reminder – especially now – of how complicated love can be, and how often we misstep in the name of doing what we believe is right.
The Lehman Trilogy
March 24 - April 11, 2027
By Stefano Massini | Adapted by Ben Power

Winner of the 2022 Tony Award for Best Play, The Lehman Trilogy is a gripping saga spanning over 150 years. It traces the rise and fall of the Lehman Brothers, from immigrant beginnings to the heights of Wall Street power. This epic tale of ambition, innovation, and greed offers a sweeping look at the complexities of American capitalism. With three actors playing over 70 roles, it’s a theatrical tour de force that’s as thought-provoking as it is visually stunning.
