First Look at the Cast of OUR TOWN by Kentwood Players at the Westchester Playhouse

First Look at the Cast of OUR TOWN by Kentwood Players at the Westchester Playhouse Thornton Wilder's Pulitzer Prize winning classic play OUR TOWN comes to the Kentwood Players stage with a dramatic restaging, directed by Stanley Brown and produced by Kathy Dershimer, opening Friday, January 11 through Saturday, February 16, 2019 on Fri/Sat 8pm, Sun 2pm at the Westchester Playhouse, 8301 Hindry Avenue, LA 90045.

OUR TOWN is introduced and narrated by the Stage Manager, who welcomes the audience to the fictional town of First Look at the Cast of OUR TOWN by Kentwood Players at the Westchester Playhouse Grover's Corners, New Hampshire, early on a May morning in 1901. In the opening scene, the stage is largely empty, except for some tables and chairs that represent the homes of the Gibbs and Webb families. The set remains sparse throughout the rest of the play as their lives are remembered and celebrated, with the residents of the small town remaining as universal and timeless as when they first appeared on stage in 1938.

Featured in the cast, First Look at the Cast of OUR TOWN by Kentwood Players at the Westchester Playhouse in alphabetical order, are Dan Adams, Stephen Anthony Bailey, Shari Barrett, Jenny Boone, Allison Cunningham, Harold Dershimer, Aly Etienne, Sadie Fisher, Eddie Ed O'Brien, Shawn Plunkett, Judy Rosenfeld, Michele Selin, Gabrielle Sigrist and Ethan Trejo.

As a fan of Shakespeare and immersive theatre productions, I was intrigued when I heard that The Shakespeare Center LA and After Hours Theatre Company were set to present the premiere of The Tempest: An Immersive Experience, a fully reimagined audience-participation performance based on William Shakespeare's tale of family members caught up in a storm and shipwrecked on an isolated Mediterranean island. So I decided to speak with the production's director Ben Donenberg, Shakespeare Center LA Artistic Director, Graham Wetterhahn, the Producing Artistic Director at After Hours Theatre Company, and Sara Beil one of the producers for After Hours who created the immersive design, about their vision for an immersive way to include audience members in the experience of Shakespeare's tempestuous play.

I decided to speak with its co-directors, Jeremie Loncka, who also serves as the Director of Programs for the Actors’ Gang’s Prison Project, and ensemble member Rich Loya, about their vision for the project and how it came into being with the two of them at the helm.

The soon-to-open production of the Neil Simon musical Little Me at Manhattan Beach Community Church Theater (MBCC), the longest running theater in the South Bay since 1956, is directed by Paula Kelley with choreography by Angela Asch. Originally scheduled to open in the Spring of 2020, I decided to speak with the director about the production’s three-year delay and how she envisions presenting a musical full of comic vignettes featuring such a large cast, especially since it was written specifically for Sid Caesar to play multiple roles as all the heroine’s husbands and lovers.
