Digital Marketing Assistant - Steppenwolf Theatre Company

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is seeking candidates for the full-time position of Digital Marketing Assistant to meet the organization’s growing need for digital excellence. This role reports to the Senior Digital Marketing Manager and supports the organization’s day-to-day digital marketing needs.

The ideal candidate will have experience in a) website content management, b) email marketing, c) managing deadline-driven projects d) KPI analysis.

 

Areas of Responsibility:

• Create, update and maintain website content through Episerver (CMS) and troubleshoot issues, as needed

• Cultivate cross departmental familiarity with website content standards and best practices, and provide support in training staff on website content management

• Identify opportunities to improve the website, such as new e-commerce functionality and SEO

• Actively participate in an internal web team by identifying website needs, gathering web development estimates, conducting quality assurance testing and ensuring that new functionality is working as expected post-launch

• Assist in restructuring and editing new sections of the website, such as the campus expansion section to highlight the new Arts and Education Center and the 400-seat Round Theater

• Use Google Analytics, HotJar and other tools to track website KPIs, gain insights from data analysis, and make recommendations for improvements

• Assist in the management and maintenance of the website development budget Email • Maintain the organization-wide email communications calendar, and assist in training other staff on how to use our email service provider (WordFly)

• Assist with the day-to-day execution of email communications for all major institutional announcements, such as season announcements, communicating reopening safety protocols, and celebrating the opening of the new Arts and Education Center

• Lead the email process from start to finish by assigning tasks for necessary assets, building campaigns using best practices, routing campaigns for copy edits, creating subscriber lists, deploying emails and analyzing email performance

• Manage e-newsletters by brainstorming content ideas, assigning tasks, creating drafts, deploying campaigns and analyzing results to make data-driven content decisions

• Create dynamic content and triggered emails to meet institutional needs, such as pre-show reminders

• Review organization-wide emails to ensure alignment with brand voice, aesthetic standards and proper grammar

• Use Tessitura (CRM) to create email subscriber lists and reports

• Conduct A/B testing to optimize email performance

• Track email KPIs, maintain email metric dashboards, conduct data analysis and make recommendations for improving the email content strategy

• Lead the execution of email remarketing campaigns (Behavior Infuser) by creating a strategy for retargeting website visitors and abandoned carts

• Support the execution of content-based marketing ideas to promote productions and other institutional initiatives

• Identify opportunities to improve e-communications and lead projects as needs arise Virtual streaming

• Support Steppenwolf’s evolving digital streaming initiatives through streaming platform setup, maintenance and troubleshooting

• Contribute to the development of organization-wide timelines and assign tasks for key milestones in order to meet launch deadlines

• Create and deploy emails to promote the launch of new digital productions, as well as viewing reminders for members

• Track viewing metrics to establish trends, gain insights into viewers’ behavior and inform decision-making for future virtual productions

• Support the organization’s virtual streaming initiatives as needs arise Analytics

• Lead and/or assist in building, routing and deploying patron surveys through Wufoo; conduct data analysis and share insights with the larger team

• Manage Steppenwolf’s participation in nation-wide patron studies, including ticket buyers’ media usage studies and COVID-19 studies

• Establish baseline measurements, set goals, track KPIs, and conduct data analysis • Provide feedback on public-facing surveys created by all departments to ensure research best practices are in place Advertising support (interim)

• Communicating plans with ad reps and placing advertising insertion orders

• Ad trafficking (submitting ad request forms to the design team, routing ads for edits and ensuring ads are submitted in time)

• Creation of other assets for advertising promotions as needed (unique URLs, recommended targeting parameters, copy, etc.)

• Ensure advertising records, spec sheets and budgets are up-to-date Miscellaneous department support • Support the maintenance of the digital material archive

• Provide data and stats for other departments, as necessary

• Process invoices and maintain budget spreadsheets

• Support department efforts to promote inclusion, diversity, equity and access within the organization

 

Successful candidates will:

• Have experience in marketing, communications, project management or related field

• Have awareness of new and emerging web, email, virtual streaming, social media and/or analytics technologies

• Possess a creative enthusiasm and passion for the digital medium

• Ability to communicate clearly about technology and digital media to non-technical colleagues

• Be proactive, relationship-oriented, strategic and creative. They must understand the big picture and pay strong attention to detail. They should feel comfortable juggling multiple projects, and they must have excellent writing, organizational and interpersonal skills.

 

Desired Qualifications:

• Demonstrated interest in digital content strategy and development

• Experience in the arts and/or a non-profit organization is desirable

• Familiarity with website content management systems; experience with Episerver an added plus

• Familiarity with email marketing platforms (Constant Contact, Mailchimp, etc.); experience with Wordfly an added plus

• Familiarity with ticketing software; experience with Tessitura and API an added plus

• Familiarity with Wufoo, or other survey platforms

• Familiarity with JIRA, Basecamp, or other project tracking software

• Steppenwolf gives preference to candidates who have demonstrable experience advocating for inclusion, diversity, equity and access (IDEA)
