Development Manager

Part Time Position

Reports to: Executive Director

Job Description: Share the vision of Elm Street to encourage individuals, corporations, municipalities, and foundations to increase contributed income.



JOB OVERVIEW

The Development Manager (DM) will lead, strategize, and implement initiatives to solicit, coordinate, retain, and ensure quality for contributed income. The DM reports to the Executive Director, collaborates with various departments, and will be available for the Board of Directors to ensure strategic goals are met. The DM will oversee and be responsible for all fundraising initiatives, membership, and activity – and as the main point of contact for those contributing income, will need to ensure that donors, sponsors, and foundations are keenly aware of the positive impact their gift has on Elm Street and community. The DM will be working with Professionals and Volunteers, it is required to always maintain a positive attitude in representing Elm Street.



RESPONSIBILITIES

The following are current programs and projects that the DM will coordinate:



Donor Development [30%]

• Spearhead initiatives to increase number of donors and gift amounts.

• Generate content specialized for donors to ensure consistent contact from organization, the Executive Director (including through ghost writing), or the DM. This includes quarterly print newsletter, monthly emails, in-person events, year end mailer appeals, and more.

• Maintaining relationships with current/active donors to ensure that open pledges are fulfilled, donor/member perks from the organization are fulfilled, and relationships remain in good standing.

• Ensure that all donors receive swift and appropriate acknowledgements/thank you’s, including to maintain compliance with 501(c)(3) tax benefits provided to donor.

• Strategize and coordinate larger initiatives to earn additional contributed income, including Giving Tuesday, Annual Galas, End of Year Campaigns, and other financially large asks, gifts, estate giving, and planned giving.

• Regularly work at Elm Street events for clear presence to donors and remain in good relations.

• Other donor development initiatives as the organization grows.



Foundation/Government Relations [30%]

• Ensure the organization is maintaining long-range planning to appropriately pursue contributed income from foundations and government entities so that programs can be adequately planned.

• Research, inquire, pursue and solicit financial support and partnership for significant projects, artistic departments, education initiatives, or general operating support from private foundations.

• Ensure Elm Street remains in good standing with foundation partnerships through consistent communication, quality acknowledgements, granting conditions are met, and thorough reporting.

• Pursue and coordinate Federal, State, and local government funds through grant applications when appropriate.

• Ensure compliance with government grants as programs produce, including appropriate acknowledgements and/or programmatic requirements.



Corporate Sponsorship Relations/Coordination [30%]

• Develop Strategies, programming benefits, and packages to pursue and solicit corporate sponsorships for programs.

• Broaden Elm Street’s network of Sponsorships through networking events, spreading the organizations mission and vision, and ensuring quality impact is made.

• Serve as main point of contact for corporate partners.

• Ensure that corporate sponsors receive appropriate acknowledgements, sponsorship benefits, invitations, and consistent contact so that they are aware of the impact they have on the organization and the community.

• Regularly meet with current sponsors to solicit feedback, remain in good standing, and encourage renewals.

• Be present at high attended events to remain as point of contact and high profile with corporate sponsors, active or potential.



Inter-Department/Committee Relations [10%]

• Lead, serve as main point of contact, and ensure effectiveness of committee(s) for contributed income. This includes ongoing committees for donor development, Corporate Sponsorships, and Foundation/Government Relations as well as short term committees for specific initiatives such as the Annual Gala, Giving Tuesday, etc. These are fluid and may change based on upcoming initiatives.

• Conduct regular meetings with staff to understand upcoming programming initiatives and remain knowledgable to solicit appropriately and understand large needs.

• Work heavily with marketing department to ensure branding, consistent messaging, and thorough development campaigns.



• Other Duties as Assigned



WORK SCHEDULE

Various work hours will be scheduled on an ongoing basis. Weekends and evenings will be required for this job. This position will also fill voids in staffing where demand of time is high.



QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

• Bachelors Degree, preferably in arts, management, and/or Non-profit experience.

• Familiarity with Microsoft Office software, social media applications, and emerging media.

• Knowledge in Salesforce, Square, WordPress preferred, but not required.



Skills and Abilities:

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Ability to think strategically and translate business objectives into recruitment strategies and tactics that will drive performance.

• Positive attitude regardless of situation.

• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under deadlines.



PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

• Standing, walking, bending, frequent use of hands, stooping and lifting is needed.

• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.



DM will also participate in events that further the organization as a whole, particularly surrounding marketing, fundraising, and critical events. The DM will also be utilized to relieve pressure amongst staff, an example being serving as “Staff on Duty” for events.
