Americans for the Arts Leader to Discuss Economics of Art & Culture at NSU Art Museum

Randy Cohen - Vice President of Research and Policy for Americans for the Arts - will visit Broward County to address the $414 million impact of the nonprofit arts and culture industry on the local economy.

The Arts & Economic Prosperity 5 (AEP5) recently published by the Americans for the Arts, reported Broward's nonprofit arts and culture sector is a flourishing $414.2 million industry supporting 11,000-plus jobs and generating $40.1 million in revenue for both the local and state government. The report is based on data collected in 2015 that reported Broward County's nonprofit arts and cultural organizations spent $148.5 million, and leveraged an additional $265.7 million in spending by their audiences - a critical impact on Broward's economy.

Directly impacting local business ranging from restaurants and hotels to parking garages and retail stores, this spending lends weight to Cohen's position: that arts nonprofits have surpassed conventional charities to become a formidable industry, a cornerstone of tourism, and - A. Cohen phrases it - "good business citizens."
