September 4 - 22, 2024

1st Rehearsal: August 13, 2024.

Opening: September 7, 2024.

Closing: September 22, 2024

Every family has secrets, and the eccentric Brewster family is no exception. When theater critic Mortimer Brewster comes home to announce his engagement, he discovers his two spinster aunts’ macabre secret: their pension for poisoning lonely old men as an act of mercy! Further complications arise as he deals with a brother who thinks he’s Teddy Roosevelt and another murderous brother returning home after plastic surgery to hide from the police. Between grappling with family loyalty or obeying the law, it will be a miracle if Mortimer makes it to his own wedding. This madcap comedy is sure to keep audiences laughing and on the edge of their seats!

Seeking:

Abby Brewster: (Any Race or Ethnicity, Female Identifying, Age range 60-70) Sweet, bright, spry. She’s an affable hostess and the model of Victorian charm and grace. She and her sister Martha are the embodiment of the values of polite society of a bygone age. Aunt to Mortimer, Teddy, and Jonathan. Friend to the entire neighborhood. Merciful serial killer.

Martha Brewster: (Any Race or Ethnicity, Female Identifying, Age range 60-70) Sweet, bright, spry. She and her sister, Abby, have lived together their entire lives. Their routines and manners are firmly rooted. Martha wears a high collar to cover an acid burn caused by her father, a mad scientist. Aunt to Mortimer, Teddy, and Jonathan. A great cook. Friend to the entire neighborhood. Mixes the poisoned concoctions used to murder lonely men.

Mortimer Brewster: (Any Race or Ethnicity, Male Identifying, Age range late 20s- early 40s) A good hearted cynic who is stylish, likable, and witty. A drama critic who hates the theater. He is in love with Elaine who lives next door to his Aunts Abby and Martha, so he visits often. His world gets turned upside down when he learns his sweet aunts are murdering lonely gentlemen and burying them in the cellar. Strong physical comedy skills.

Teddy Brewster: (Any Race or Ethnicity, Male Identifying, Age range 40s-50s) Brother to Mortimer and Jonathan. Wholeheartedly believes he is President Theodore Roosevelt. Buries the bodies of his aunts' victims in the cellar as he is convinced the bodies are yellow fever victims and the cellar is Panama. Strong physical comedy skills.

Elaine Harper: (Any Race or Ethnicity, Female Identifying, Age range late 20s-early 40s) Stylish, smart, witty, sharp. Daughter of Rev. Dr. Harper and fiancée to Mortimer. Surprisingly wise in the ways of the world for a minister’s daughter. She and Mortimer engage in witty, flirtatious banter. She becomes terrorized by Jonathan sending her into twisted confusion and stark fear, and eventually godsent relief. Strong physical comedy skills and versatility.

Jonathan Brewster: (Any Race or Ethnicity, Male Identifying, Age range 40s-50s) Nephew of Abby and Martha Brewster, brother to Teddy and Mortimer. Jonathan is a psychopathic, murderous gangster who has had plastic surgery and now looks like Boris Karloff (Frankenstein’s Monster) with a face full of scars. Ominous presence. Sends a chill down the spine of anyone he comes in contact with. Plots to kill Mortimer throughout the play.

Dr. Einstein: (Any Race or Ethnicity, Male Identifying, Age range 50s) A plastic surgeon and an alcoholic. Dr. Einstein has changed Jonathan’s face three times. German accent. He is the short, comedic, ratty, Igor-type assistant to Jonathan.

The Reverend Dr. Harper: (Any Race or Ethnicity, Male Identifying, Age range 50s) Minister of the church next door, father to Elaine, and a widower. Mild mannered, sensitive, and polished. The Brewster sisters have seen many ministers come and go over the years, but they are particularly fond of Dr. Harper and vice versa. He is not in favor of Mortimer and Elaine’s relationship.

Officer Brophy: (Any Race or Ethnicity, Male Identifying, Age range 30s-50s) A police officer and a thoroughly likable sort of fellow. He is making his rounds collecting Christmas toys for the needy. The Brewster home is on his regular beat and he stops over often to experience the hospitality and food offered by Abby and Martha.

Officer Klein: (Any Race or Ethnicity, Male Identifying, Age range 30s-50s) A flatfoot Brooklyn officer who makes his rounds with Officer Brophy collecting Christmas toys. Also enjoys the hospitality of the Brewster sisters.

Officer O’Hara: (Any Race or Ethnicity, Male Identifying, Age range 30s-40s) Full of life, good natured, and clueless. A would-be playwright who pesters Mortimer to read his play. Irish dialect. Strong physical comedy skills.

Mr. Gibbs: (Any Race or Ethnicity, Male Identifying, Age range 70s) A lonely man who wishes to rent a room from the Brewster sisters and nearly falls victim to their murderous act of charity. He is a little gruff, but he warms up fairly quickly upon being offered a treat he hasn’t had since he was a child.

Lieutenant Rooney: (Any Race or Ethnicity, Male Identifying, Age range 50s) The man in charge at the local police precinct. A tough and dominating police lieutenant. He has very little patience for blunder and mistakes, and runs a tight ship. He is loud, decisive, and takes charge of every situation in which he finds himself.

Mr. Witherspoon: (Any Race or Ethnicity, Male Identifying, Age range 40s-60s) The superintendent of Happy Dale Sanitarium. Very mild mannered and kind.

It Sings. It Shudders. It…Eats People? Dive into this gut-bustingly quirky cult classic where screams of terror and laughter go hand in hand! Seymour is a meek wallflower taking care of a wilting flower shop in Skid Row all alone. That is until a miraculous plant of otherworldly origins appears with the answer to all of his troubles. But when this plant begins to crave more than sunlight, will Seymour be able to keep Audrey II’s appetite whetted, or will this maniacal, musical, marigold turn Mushnik’s Flower Shop into its buffet forever!? This succulent mix of rock, romance, mayhem, meatloaf, and razor-sharp teeth collide in a mouthwatering, theatrical extravaganza that has delighted audiences for years.

Seymour Krelborn: (Any Race or Ethnicity, Male Identifying, Age range 25-35, Vocal range: Top G4- Bottom A2) An insecure, put-upon florist's clerk and eventual hero. He is a genuine, well-meaning man who is taken for granted because of his clumsy ways and poor social skills.

Voice Of The Plant: (Any Race or Ethnicity, Any Gender, Age range 20-50, Vocal range: Top G4- Bottom G2) An actor/vocalist located offstage. The voice is that of a conniving, street-smart 'villain.' A funky Rhythm and Blues voice is best.
