Disney’s Mary Poppins
Mary Poppins:
Mid 25-40. Neat and tidy, delightfully vain. Very particular and sharp. Strange and extraordinary, sometimes frightening but at the same time exciting. Practically perfect in every way. Always means exactly what she says. British accent. Mezzo soprano with a strong top. Must be able to dance well. Range: Gb3 - C6.
Bert:
30s. Manly but warm. Inexplicably has a variety of occupations – match man, pavement painter, chimney sweep, hurdy-gurdy player. A friend of Mary Poppins, always nearby to watch the children and observe the goings on in Cherry Tree Lane. Song-and-dance man. Excellent tap dancer. Cockney accent. Range: B2 - F#4.
Mr. George Banks:
Early 40s. A senior bank clerk by name, nature and occupation. Believes, however wrong he may be, that he had the perfect childhood. Rules with an iron fist, but his emotional armor is concealing a sensitive soul. A pipe-and-slippers man who doesn't have much to do with his children. Absent-minded, always losing his possessions. Likes things just so, even though money is always tight for a salaried man. British accent. Range: Bb2 - Eb4.
Mrs. Winifred Banks:
30s. Very busy trying to live up to her husband's desire to only associate with the best people. Loving but distracted mother. Overwhelmed by the conflict between her desire to please her husband and children and the contradictory suspicion that she's both not up to the job and worth more. British accent. Range: A3 - D5.
Jane Banks:
11. High-spirited daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Banks. She is bright and precocious but can be willful and inclined to snobbishness. Strong dance training. British accent. Range: A3 - F#5.

Mrs. Brill:
50s. The housekeeper. Always complaining that the house is understaffed. Most of the time her intimidating exterior barely masks the warmth underneath. Big, bosomy and harassed. Barks rather than speaks. Doesn't have a high opinion of nannies in general and Mary Poppins in particular. British accent. Range: F#3 - D#5.
Miss Andrew:
40s-50s. George's old nanny. Overbearing lady with a huge trumpeting voice. Beak-nosed, grim-mouthed; small, peering bespectacled eyes. A bully who only knows one way of doing things – her way. British accent. Range: Gb3 - F5.
Robertson Ay:
Early 20s. House boy to the Banks family. Lazy, sleepy and grumbling. Never gets things right, so believes himself to be useless. British accent. Range: F3 - G#4.
The Birdwoman:
50s. Covered in a patchwork of old shawls, her pockets are stuffed with bags of crumbs for the birds. She tries to sell her crumbs for the birds to passersby, who ignore her as if she doesn't exist. She has a gruff, folksy quality to her voice that reflects the hardness of her life. Sings Feed the Birds. British accent. Range: Gb3 - C5.
Admiral Boom:
A retired Royal Navy man and neighbor of the Banks family. A physically large man with a loud and booming voice, he speaks in Navy jargon. British accent.
