Breakdown

WORLD PREMIERE

This new comedy centers on an out-of-work female impersonator who, when his elderly landlady dies in her sleep, takes on her identity in order to hang on to her valuable Greenwich Village townhouse. This “perfect” scheme goes awry and leads to a wild path of twists and reversals plotted by an eccentric rogues gallery of outrageous schemers.

SEEEKING:
NOTE: All potential actors for the following roles must have strong comedic skills and comic sensibility, as well as posses an ability to portray realistic, sincere and honest emotions within an outrageous comic situation. This is a character-based farce, rather than a stylized piece.

JIMMY:
(Age: late 40's to early 50's) A highly skilled, professional female celebrity impersonator. Offstage, he's something of a schemer but with a whimsical vulnerability that's very appealing. Although middle aged, he still projects a boyish youthfulness. (CAST: Charles Busch)

RITA:
(Age: late 40's to early 50's) A world weary real estate agent, who drinks too much and although she affects a tough facade, she's at heart a good gal. (CAST: Julie Halston)

ADRIANA:
(Age: Character is in her 80's but actress can be in her late 60's or early 70's). A retired fashion designer who married a wealthy man, she speaks with a slight, undefined European accent. Despite her aging fragility, she still has a sophisticated glamour. Actress must resemble Charles Busch reasonably enough as far as height, weight and vocal quality. Please submit actresses 5’6” – 5’8”.

RODNEY:
(Age: late 40's to early 50's) He was once a very beautiful and alluring young man, and now years later, following a series of harrowing experiences and addictions, he has become a rather seedier version of his younger self. He is still very attractive with an animal sexual magnetism. Needs to have a strong physical presence, and be able to portray a sense of danger - as though he could believably inflict physical harm, like a Stanley Kowalski. He is emotionally intense, smooth-talking, brooding, damaged. He's an operator who will take advantage of any opportunity.

CHRISTINA:
(Age: mid-30's to early 40's) Mother of a 15-year old daughter, Rachel. Actress must be able to believably portray a working-class, low-income employee of a low-end Milwaukee hair salon. She should be pretty and physically attractive but not glamorous. She's neurotic, emotionally vulnerable, and has a streak of the loser about her. She's putting on a strong front, but is emotionally fragile, anxious, desperate, and at the end of her rope.

RACHEL:
(Age: actress can be in her early twenties, but must read convincingly as a 15 year-old, and appear believably boyish and naturally masculine). Character is transgender though still physically female. She prefers to be known as Oliver. Though not doing well in school, due to bullying, is smart, intelligent and insightful. Though seemingly adjusted, he is starved for affection and acceptance for who he really is.
