OTHER

If hired on a resident contract, you will be in rehearsal for one show during the day and performing another show at night and/or matinee. Offers are only valid as a resident contract. EPA procedures are in effect for this audition. An Equity Monitor will be provided.

Please bring a selection in the style of the shows to sing. You are welcome and encouraged to sing from the shows. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring sheet music properly marked and in the correct key. Also, please bring two copies of your headshot and resume, stapled together. Always bring your Equity Membership card to auditions.

Tracy Turnblad - ROLE IS CAST. Our story's unsuspecting protagonist. Confident, talented, and incredibly determined. A romantic with a good heart and desire to cut up the dance floor. Always on top of the latest trends. Tracy Turnblad is a young lady with big hair and an even bigger personality! She is the hero of our story, and she is sweet but also strong in her convictions. She is bigger in size than the other girls, but she isn't shy about it - she can still dance with the best of them! An excellent singer and dancer, who has wonderful stage presence and can easily capture the audience's hearts. 18+ to play high school age. Gender: Female Presenting. Mezzo-Soprano with a strong theatre/pop belt. Vocal range top: G5. Vocal range bottom: G3.

Corny Collins - ROLE IS CAST. The charismatic host of the Corny Collins' Show. Good looking and smooth talking, he is a genuinely nice guy both on and off camera. 25–35. Gender: Male Presenting. Strong pop singer, high baritone. Vocal range top: A4. Vocal range bottom: D3.

Edna Turnblad - ROLE IS CAST. Tracy's big and blonde mother. She is a working housewife who has lost her confidence and dream to be a plus-size clothing designer. Boisterous and commanding. Often played by a male presenting performer. 40–55. Gender: Male Presenting. Bass-baritone. Vocal range top: G5. Vocal range bottom: F3.

Penny Pingleton - ROLE IS CAST. Tracy's best friend and dorky sidekick. Not the brightest girl, but she has good intentions. Bursting to get free of her mother's dominating control, she falls for Seaweed with childlike curiosity. 18+ to play high school age. Gender: Female Presenting. Strong high belt, contemporary theatre/pop voice. Vocal range top: G5. Vocal range bottom: A3.

Velma Von Tussle - ROLE IS CAST. Amber's mother and the director of Corny Collins' show. She is a devious taskmaster and snobby racist. The former Miss Baltimore Crabs will go to any length to ensure her daughter is the next big thing. 45–55. Gender: Female Presenting. Mezzo-soprano with strong belt mix. Vocal range top: E5. Amber Von Tussle - ROLE IS CAST. Link's girlfriend and Tracy's nemesis. She is pretty, shallow, snobby, and racist. Can't dance but is expected to win Miss Baltimore Hairspray. Always feels the need to be the center of attention. Female, 18+ to play high school age. Gender: Female Presenting. Mezzo-soprano. Vocal range top: F5. Vocal range bottom: A3.

Link Larkin - ROLE IS CAST. The star heartthrob on Corny Collins' show. He is extremely attractive and talented. Hoping to get his big break with a recording contract, he unexpectedly falls for Tracy. 18+ to play high school age. Gender: Male Presenting. Tenor with strong falsetto. Vocal range top: A5. Seaweed J. Stubbs - ROLE IS CAST. Tracy's classmate and friend, who is discriminated against due to his skin color. He is cocky but surprisingly lovable. Talented in song and dance. Motormouth Maybelle - ROLE IS CAST. Seaweed and Little Inez's mother, she also appears as the guest DJ on the Corny Collins' Negro Day show. Big, blonde, beautiful and proud of it.
