CONTRACT

LOA / OTHER: $808 weekly minimum (Ref. to LORT) - 2025-26 rate. Plus pension / health weeks. Travel and housing available for non-local actors. An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition.

Female-presenting, 40-60, any ethnicity. The head of the Gander Legion, with a firefighter son, who walks Hannah to her church and prays with her. Vocal range: Mezzo with belt up to D.

KEVIN J / ALI

Male-presenting, 25-30s, Middle Eastern. [KEVIN J] Kevin J is Kevin T’s boyfriend and secretary. Sarcastic and unhappy, he is eager to leave as soon as possible. The events of September 11 make him reassess his life and his future. [ALI] A Middle Eastern chef who works for an international hotel chain. He is misunderstood at times and the subject of discrimination, but despite adversity, he shows resilience and kindness. Vocal range: B2–G4.

KEVIN T / GARTH

Male-presenting, 30s, any ethnicity. [KEVIN T] The head of an environmental energy company in Los Angeles, Kevin was on vacation with his boyfriend (and secretary, also named Kevin), when they are stranded in Gander. Inspired by the town's generosity, Kevin creates the Pay It Forward Foundation. [GARTH] The head of the local union, representing the bus drivers. Vocal top: G4.

BOB / MUHUMUZA

Male-presenting, 30s, Black. [BOB] A hardened New Yorker, Bob is suspicious of where he's landed, fearing that it's World War 3, that someone is going to shoot him and steal his wallet — but instead, he ends up losing his New York jadedness. [MUHUMUZA] A husband and father. He is a protective man who, like his family, is rattled by the events of September 11 and is frightened that they are all being taken to a military compound. Vocal range: B2–F#4.

OZ

Male-presenting, 30-50, any ethnicity. The quirky constable in the two-person Gander police force. When the town's population suddenly doubles, Oz helps out in unexpected ways. Vocal top: G4.

CHARLIE BUCKET

Male-identifying, 9–12 years old, any ethnicity. Our story's shy, earnest protagonist. From a modest home life, he is humble and noncompetitive while maintaining a sense of wonder about the world. One of the Golden Ticket winners whose honesty and general good nature win Wonka over. Charlie is the heart of the story. Vocal range: G#3–F5.

GRANDPA JOE

Male-identifying, 55+, any ethnicity. Charlie’s loving and enthusiastic grandfather. Warm, humorous, and energetic despite age. Has heartfelt presence. Vocal range (Baritone): G#2–G#4.

MRS. BUCKET

Female-identifying, 30–45, any ethnicity. Charlie Bucket's nurturing mother. She is always trying to maintain an energetic positivity. Vocal range (Mezzo-Soprano): G3–E5.

GRANDMA JOSEPHINE / GRANDMA GEORGINA

Female-identifying, 55+, any ethnicity. Bedridden but spirited grandmothers. Strong comedic characters. Vocal range: Character singing role. Ab3–E5.

MR. SALT

MR. BEAUREGARDE

Male-identifying, 30–50, any ethnicity. Violet's ineffectual father. Ignores his back-talking, insult-hurling daughter. Vocal range: F#3–G4.

MRS. TEAVEE

Female-identifying, 35–50. She needs amphetamines to get through the day and deal with her outrageous son. Tense, extreme, and hilarious. Vocal range: G3–Eb5.

CADY HERON

Character is female, any ethnicity, 18+ to play 17. A new junior at North Shore High School, Cady grew up in Africa and was homeschooled by her wildlife biologist parents. She is warm, bright, and strong enough to take on The Plastics. A great voice and good comic timing who can be the emotional heart of our story. Broadway mix with exceptional range.

JANIS SARKISIAN

Character is female, any ethnicity, 18+ to play 17. An “Art Freak” and social outcast, Janis is not afraid to be weird or make others uncomfortable. She paints herself as an objective observer, but, like so many of us, she longs to avenge the devastating events of eighth grade. Proficiency in an instrument like guitar, ukulele, or keyboards would be a plus. Broadway alto with a rock belt.

DAMIAN

Character is male, any ethnicity, 18+ to play 17. Outgoing, gay, an active member of the student activities committee, Damian is a fiercely loyal friend to Janis, and they have the close rapport of a comedy team. Damian loves a good show tune almost as much as he loves an unattended box of fundraising candy bars. Broadway Tenor.

REGINA GEORGE

Character is female, any ethnicity, 18+ to play 17. Regina is the Queen Bee of the Plastics. When she shines her light on you, you feel like the most important person in the world. When that light goes cold, you want to die. She is regal, still, and “hot”, but at her most vulnerable moments, she is just a kid in over her head. Broadway rock with an exceptional range.

GRETCHEN WIENERS

Character is female, any ethnicity, 18+ to play 17. Desperate to please Regina and to maintain her position in the Plastics, Gretchen is a nervous wreck. She is a “banker” meaning she befriends people to “bank” their secrets so she can trade them later for her own benefit. Her fragility at times is heartbreaking. Traditional Broadway with pop chops.

KAREN SMITH

Character is female, any ethnicity, 18+ to play 17. Karen is so physically beautiful that the other parts of her intellect and personality never had to develop. But she is essentially kind, relaxed and a generous laugher. Traditional Broadway with pop chops.

MRS. HERON / MS. NORBURY / MRS. GEORGE

Character is female, any ethnicity, 18–50, to play all three adult female roles. Mrs. Heron is Cady’s crunchy, intellectual mom who can’t understand why her daughter is devolving before her eyes. Ms. Norbury is Cady’s brittle, world-weary calculus teacher who pushes Cady to be her smartest self. Mrs. George is Regina’s “cool mom.” She’s desperate to look young and feel like one of the teens. She’s also desperate for Regina not to repeat her mistakes. Comedic and a singer that distinctly defines these three characters. Eclectic Broadway vocal mix.

MR. DUVALL

Character is male, African-American, 18–50, the principal of North Shore High. Mr. Duvall may have once taught computers at Joliet penitentiary, but nothing prepared him for the harsh realities of out-of-control junior girls. Funny and a strong singer.

AARON

Character is male, any ethnicity, 18+ to play 17. A cute boy with a good moral compass and a backbone. He’s not immune to all the female attention he gets, but he’s not going to let himself be a pawn in their chess game either. Broadway and pop tenor.

KEVIN GNAPOOR

Character is male, Indian or Pakistani, 18+ to play 17. Kevin is the extremely driven captain of the North Shore Mathletes. He is a confident student, a suave virgin, and a decent rapper. Rap skills necessary and traditional Indian singing technique a plus.

ENSEMBLE DANCERS

Any ethnicity, 18–25 to play various characters from teens to teachers. Looking for funny people who sing and dance well.

EVAN HANSEN

Early 20s, Pop Tenor G2–B4. A high school senior with social anxiety. He is assigned by his therapist to write letters to himself about why each day will be good, which becomes the catalyst for the plot of the story.

HEIDI HANSEN

Late 30s–40s, Pop Alto F3–Eb5. Evan's mother, a nurse's aide who attends paralegal school at night, often leaving Evan on his own as a result.

CONNOR MURPHY

Early 20s, Pop Bari/Tenor G2–G4. A classmate of Evan and high school senior who, like Evan, is also a social outcast with no friends, and a frequent drug user, getting high to cope with his aggressive and violent tendencies. Connor eventually takes his own life during Act 1. His ghost appears in Evan's mind throughout the rest of the musical.

ZOE MURPHY

Early 20s, Pop Soprano F3–E5. Connor's younger sister and Evan's longtime crush. She was never close to Connor, even hated him and thought he was a monster, but wishes she had known him better and turns to Evan after he lies and says he was friends with Connor.

CYNTHIA MURPHY

Late 30s–40s, Pop Soprano F#3–E5. Connor and Zoe's stay-at-home mother. She is constantly trying to keep her fragile family from falling apart but is often unsuccessful.

LARRY MURPHY

Late 30s–40s, Pop Bari/Tenor F#2–G4. Connor and Zoe's busy and distant father.

ALANA BECK

Early 20s, Pop Soprano F3–E5. Evan's earnest but melodramatic classmate. She is constantly looking for academic and extracurricular activities to boost her collegiate chances.

JARED KLEINMAN

Early 20s, Pop Tenor A2–B4. Evan's droll and sarcastic friend. He helps Evan and Alana found The Connor Project.

Male-identifying, 20–25, any ethnicity. A struggling musician and former drug addict, he is reminiscent of Eddie Vedder and Kurt Cobain. Battles with being HIV-positive and the death of his ex-girlfriend. Pop/rock tenor.

MARK COHEN

Male-identifying, 20–30, any ethnicity. Underfunded and underground filmmaker and video artist. He has turned his back on his affluent upbringing and is deep in his own soul-searching. The narrator of the show. Pop tenor.

TOM COLLINS

25–35, Black/African descent. Philosopher, teacher, anarchist, AIDS activist. A computer genius and liberal professor, he is a nurturer with a smooth and relaxed disposition. Gospel baritone.

ANGEL DUMOTT SCHUNARD

Any ethnicity, 20–30. An eccentric street drummer and a drag queen with an incredible gift of dance and magnetic personality. Warm, lovable, and nurturing. High pop tenor with falsetto.

BENJAMIN COFFIN III

25–35, any ethnicity. Former roommate with Mark, Roger, and Collins; now the landlord of the building. Traded in his personal morals for power and wealth. Pop tenor.

MIMI MARQUEZ

18–21, Black/African descent, Latina, mixed ethnicity. Dancer at the Cat Scratch Club and Roger and Mark’s neighbor. Savvy and independent, but with dark secrets. Pop/rock belt.

MAUREEN JOHNSON

20–25, any ethnicity. A downtown performance artist. Funny and wild, she is always the life of the party (as long as she is center of everyone’s attention). Pop/rock belt.

JOANNE JEFFERSON

25–35, Black/African descent. A public interest lawyer with wry humor and sardonic wit. Headstrong, smart, and purposeful in all her decisions. Pop/rock belt.
