BE HERE NOW by Deborah Zoe Laufer

BARI: (THIS ROLE IS CAST) female, 40-60 (Or whatever really). An intelligent, deeply cynical New York professor of nihilism with a dark sense of humor who’s never been in love. Hope and joy are alien experiences that leave her skeptical until a dangerous medical condition connects her to others with a sense of wholeheartedness.
PATTY: Same age as Bari. Outspoken, deeply opinionated, and good hearted. Spending time with her is like visiting your lovable and slightly crazy, small-town aunt, that you love but will eventually drive you crazy. Very protective of Luann.
LUANNE: 20. A simple small-town girl. Very sweet, trusting and innocent with an adolescent exuberance. Also, a little boy crazy.
MIKE: 40s or 60s or whatever. Kind. Empathetic. He is emotionally damaged from surviving a tragic accident that killed his wife and family. The accident left him afraid of connecting too much with others for fear of hurting them as well as suffering more loss. His best friend is a wounded crow that he rescued. He currently makes art out of garbage and is considered a creative genius by the art world.

EVER MONTGOMERY: (male) mid 30’s. Mildly autistic, his high intelligence and autism informs the way he relates to the world. He is a brilliant professor of geosciences in NYC who is socially clueless and awkwardly persistent. He needs to learn how to dance for an award dinner being held in his honor, however the idea of touching or making eye contact with someone is terrifying to him.
