SEEKING

Equity actors 18+ of all gender identities, ethnicities, and abilities for roles in THE COMEDY OF ERRORS by William Shakespeare (see breakdown).

Chicago actors are encouraged to submit.

As theater-makers, we are charged with engaging honestly and deeply in conversations about our humanity, and our inhumanity.

BREAKDOWN

THE COMEDY OF ERRORS by William Shakespeare

THE COMEDY OF ERRORS takes place in Shepperton Studios during the London Blitz. An eccentric group of performers and crew attempt to film the play to entertain the troops, even as the bombs explode

Except for the American Phil Sullivan, all roles require British accents of the appropriate class or locale (which for the film crew can be of the actor’s choice). Seeking any ethnicity for all roles. Although roles may be specified on the gender binary, non-binary actors encouraged to submit for all roles for which they feel appropriate.

SEEKING:

DUDLEY MARSH: (he/him) Plays Dromio of Syracuse. 60s. The Director. Upper class. Married. Too old to be playing Dromio.

LORD BRIAN HALLIFAX: CAST (he/him) Plays Dromio of Ephesus. 60s. A star in the British classical firmament. Too old to be playing Dromio.

EMERSON FURBELOW: (he/him) Plays Antipholus of Syracuse. 40s. A dashing, swashbuckling movie star whose ego is as big as his breath is terrible. Suave, sexy. Hyper-aware of his abundant charms. In an affair with his leading lady. A comic with Shakespearean chops, or versa-visa.

MAJOR PHILLIP SULLIVAN: (he/him) Plays Antipholus of Ephesus. 40s. A volunteer with the RAF. A Hollywood movie star who “doesn’t get this Shakespeare crap.”

VERONICA LEICESTER MARSH: (she/her) Plays Adriana. Late 30s to 40s. One of Britain’s leading ladies. A diva who demands things to be just so. Unfaithful to her husband with Emerson Furbelow.

ALICE BOGGS: (she/her) Plays Luciana. Mid-20s to early 30s. The ingenue.

ADMIRAL PHILPOT: (he/him) Plays Egeon and others. 60s to 70s. The war hero of Dunkirk.

DORIS: (she/her) Plays Aemilia and others. 60s. The wardrobe person, much abused by Adriana.

MARION: (she/her), Plays the Courtesan and others. Late 20s to 40s.The wallflower script girl, enamored of Phil Sullivan.

EDDIE PHILPOT: (he/him), Plays Young Egeon, Dr. Pinch and others. Late 20s to early 40s.

DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY: (he/him) Plays Angelo and others. 20s to 60s.

MONTY: (he/him) Plays the Duke Solinus and others. The Assistant Cameraman. 40s to 60s.

KEN: (he/him) Plays First Merchant and others. The Director of Photography. Late 20s to 60.

CHARLES CHITTICK: (he/him) Plays Second Merchant and others. Late 20s to 60. A producer of The Comedy of Errors.

ENSEMBLE: 18+ and any gender. Various crew people playing parts where needed.
