Him: daughter of MA (40s) / Cambodian-American. Has stayed with MA during her illness and now battles her own rounds of chemotherapy. Married to Nate.
Sophea: Sister to HIM and daughter of MA (30s) / Cambodian-American. A free spirit whose life is kind of a mess. After her mother’s death she has arrived with a shaved head and a pledge to go into the monkhood as Cambodian Theravada Buddhists funeral rituals encourage children of the deceased to commit to.
