Private Gomer Jones is a WWI story about a group of Welsh soldiers. Though all of the characters are white, and most of them men, the cast of Private Gomer will be diverse - not just in terms of ethnicity, but gender identity, age, size, able-bodiedness, and Hearing ability.
An ENSEMBLE of all types of mixed gender and mixed abilities who have strong musicianship skills to play some of the following roles:
FATHER/MAJOR/SERGEANT Male 30’s-50’s. Father is well meaning with old school ideas of masculinity. Drill Sergeant is foul mouthed and mean. Major is cold. Tenor. Any ethnicity.
REDVERS Male, 18. Gomer’s friend from Wales. Soldier who loses a leg at war, knows about Gomer’s hearing loss. Bari-tenor. Any ethnicity.
HENRY/GERMAN SNIPER Male, 23. Deaf worker in munition’s factory and Gwenolyn’s brother. Any ethnicity. DEAF actors encouraged to submit for this role. Actors of any gender identity encouraged to submit.
JACK Male, 19. Deaf worker in munition’s factory, Any ethnicity. DEAF actors encouraged to submit for this role. Actors of any gender identity encouraged to submit.
BAILEY Male, 19. A dumb but sweet Welsh soldier. Any voice type. Any ethnicity.
