SYNOPSIS

A missing spy. A mysterious woman. A man on the run. When an ordinary man stops to help a stranger, he’s catapulted into a high-speed chase across the Scottish countryside — with only his wits (and a trench coat) to survive. This fast-paced farce features over 150 characters played by just four actors in a whirlwind of costume changes, clever staging, and nonstop laughs. A comic thriller at its best, The 39 Steps is a wildly inventive tale of mistaken identity, espionage, and split-second decisions that change everything.

SEEKING

[RICHARD HANNAY] Male, 30–40, any ethnicity. A seemingly ordinary man who finds himself embroiled in a thrilling adventure and is mistakenly accused of murder. Able to do an English accent.

[THE WOMAN] Female, 20s–30ish, any ethnicity. Three central roles that drive the story: Annabella, Pamela and Margaret. Annabella – glamorous, intense, secretive; carries an air of danger and urgency (German dialect required). Pamela – sharp, articulate, poised; meets chaos with wit, intelligence, and a no-nonsense attitude (British RP dialect required). Margaret – gentle, soft-spoken, compassionate; a quiet soul living a small, isolated life (Scottish dialect required).

[CLOWN 1] Any gender identification, 25–50, any ethnicity. Part of a two-person team responsible for creating a wide array of characters throughout the play. Roles range from police and villains to bystanders, hotel proprietors, train workers, and many more, often shifting rapidly between them. Inventive, quick on their feet, and comfortable with broad comedy, physical humor, and crisp timing. Requires various British regional dialects as needed for character changes, Scottish, and British RP.

[CLOWN 2] Any gender identification, 25–50, any ethnicity. Works in tandem with Clown 1 to portray dozens of characters of varying types and temperaments. Characters shift from scene to scene with versatility and a strong sense of play. Comfortable with quick changes, physical comedy, and various British regional dialects as needed for character changes, Scottish, and British RP.

RENT

By Jonathan Larson
Director: Telly Leung
Music Director: TBD
Choreographer: TBD
Rehearsal Start: 3/16/27
Previews Start: 4/7/27
Opens: 4/10/27
Closes: 5/2/27

Director’s Note (from Telly Leung): RENT is a show that has earned a significant place in the canon of musical theatre and gave some young performers in the 1990’s star-making opportunities due to their iconic, individual performances. RENT only works when each actor that assumes these roles approaches it with the same individuality – and that means divorcing yourself from those iconic performances that have come before you and trusting that YOU already possess everything you need to embody these characters and make them your own.

Ethnicity note: The cast of RENT should reflect the diversity of New York City. All ethnicities are encouraged to audition for all roles.

SEEKING

[Ensemble] 20s to 30s, any ethnicity. Seeking 3 male-presenting and 3 female-presenting performers with wide vocal ranges that are adept at specific character work to create the 1990’s Alphabet City world of the show. This ensemble will portray featured roles including Mrs. Cohen, Mr. Jefferson, Mrs. Jefferson, Steve, Paul, Gordon, Alexi and others while also serving as understudies for principal role(s). We will also be seeking 2 offstage swings.
