MALE SINGERS
Males, 20s – 40s, all ethnicities. Clean, bright voices. All men need to have a strong high G, and be able to handle complex, jazzy vocal harmonies. All voice types needed, especially the extreme vocal ranges (i.e., basses and high tenors). All ensemble men need to do strong Elvis vocalisms
FEMALE SINGERS
Females, 20s – late 30s, all ethnicities. Clean, bright voices. Must be able to handle complex, jazz vocal harmonies. All voice types required (not just belters), especially extreme vocal ranges (especially high sopranos).
MAHI
Female, 20s – 30s, Hawaiian. To appear in the onstage ensemble and play the featured ensemble role of MAHI (The self-described “enchanting daughter of a fisherman.” She should be truly enchanting, at once a seeming naïf and a shrewd seductress. Has a knockout number in the Hawaii-centered Act Two.) Strong, clear, clean soprano belt. Low A to belted D, to strong choral high G. One major Act 2 song. FEATURED ENSEMBLE
DOUGIE/TEIHUTU
Male, 40s, Hawaiian. To appear in the onstage ensemble and play the featured ensemble roles of DOUGIE and TEIHUTU ("Dougie" is a poker player in need of Lasik surgery. Teihutu is a somewhat demented Hawaiian working for Tommy. He sings "Ev'ry Day is Happy in Hawaii.") This actor may also cover the principal roles of TOMMY and JOHNNY SANDWICH (see descriptions above). Strong character baritone. Should have good low A and strong high G. One major Act 2 song. FEATURED ENSEMBLE
RAYMOND/CHAN ELVIS
Male, 30s, Asian. To appear in the onstage ensemble and play the featured ensemble roles of RAYMOND and CHAN ELVIS (Two sides of pineapple-flavored con. Raymond runs Tommy’s Hawaiian household and is in equal portions cheerful and devious. Chan Elvis is an Asian Elvis impersonator and part of Tommy’s intense scheme to ruin Jack’s life.) Strong, warm character voice. High baritone or tenor 2. Low B to high A. Opens Act 2. FEATURED ENSEMBLE
DAVE/ALEX
Male, 30s, Caucasian. To appear in the onstage ensemble and play the featured ensemble roles of DAVE and ALEX (Dave is Jack’s best pal, a guy who really wants to see Jack happy and married and settled. He also turns into Alex, an actor hired by Tommy to play his non-existent son. He’s something of a stoner.) Strong ensemble voice, comfortable with complex, jazzy vocal harmonies. Needs to do convincing Elvis vocalisms in Act 2. FEATURED ENSEMBLE
JACK SINGER UNDERSTUDY
Male, 30s, Caucasian. To appear in the onstage ensemble and cover the lead role of JACK (see description above). Strong ensemble voice, comfortable with complex, jazzy vocal harmonies. Needs to do convincing Elvis vocalisms in Act 2 and Jack Singer vocal requirements above. ENSEMBLE
BETSY UNDERSTUDY
Female, 30s, Caucasian. To appear in the onstage ensemble and cover the lead role of BETSY (see description above). Strong top soprano ensemble voice to high C, comfortable with complex, jazzy vocal harmonies. See Betsy vocal requirements above. ENSEMBLE
