BREAKDOWN

PREPARATION:

Please prepare a brief singing selection or two (ideally each about a minute long) in the style of the score (Hoagy Carmichael / American popular song/standards).

HOAGY CARMICHAEL’S STARDUST ROAD

NOTE: All characters dance extremely well. Additionally, all characters are expert part and close harmony singers emulating certain styles of the period (Mills Bros., Boswell Sisters, The Charioteers (a Black gospel group), and others.) Scat singing is a plus for all tracks. All
characters should have solid theatre singing ability but also be able to swing.

SEEKING:

MAX: 20s to 30s, any ethnicity/race, Tenor 2 to Ab. Versatile singer, jazz/blues style comfort. Has legit vocal ability for harmony blending.

WALLACE: 20s to 30s, any ethnicity/race, Tenor 1 to Bb. Versatile singer, light pop-jazz/ blues. Has legit vocal ability for harmony blending. Ukulele player a plus.

BUSTER: 20s to 30s, any ethnicity/race, Baritenor to G. Folksy vocal style (ability to deemphasize good legit singing - however legit singer).

CHARLIE: 20s to 30s, any ethnicity/race, Baritone to E. Outstanding solo tap dancer - strong tap/dance skills. Versatile vocalist - folksy vocal style (ability to deemphasize good legit singing - however, legit singer).

GLORIA: 20s to 30s, any ethnicity/race, second soprano, touching a G. Strong dancer and versatile vocalist. Ingenue type with good mix. Beholds the room singing “Stardust”

BESSIE: 20s to 30s, any ethnicity/race, Alto to Eb. A sassy, fun quality (but with the maturity necessary for “How Little We Know”).

CLARA: 20s to 30s, any ethnicity/race, Soprano 1 to G, also a strong mix/belt G below mid C to E. Major tapper - strong tap/dance skills. Ingenue quality with some strong torch singing ability.
