PREPARATION

LILA; RAD AND OTHERS; BETTY AND OTHERS: Please prepare a brief traditional musical theatre song of choice. Please bring sheet music for the piano accompanist. JIM HUNGERFORD AND OTHERS; SALESMAN, CLIENT AND OTHERS; MRS. NOLAN AND OTHERS: Please prepare a brief monologue of choice. Please bring your headshot and resume stapled together.

BREAKDOWN

Equity encourages everyone participating in the auditions to wear a two-ply cloth face mask, surgical
mask, singer’s mask or respirator (N95, KN95 or KF94). Single-ply face masks, gaiters and bandanas
are not recommended. Singer’s masks can be found at www.broadwayreliefproject.com/singersmask.
Equity encourages members to prepare for their audition prior to arriving at the audition venue, to the
extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and
dressing rooms.

Holding/Audition room information:

The audition room can accommodate no more than 52 individuals at a time.

The holding room can accommodate no more than 80 individuals at a time.

THE FOLLOWING ROLES ARE CAST:

[JOE CLAY] To be played by Brian d’Arcy James – Character is male (cis, transgender or nonbinary),
late 20s—40s, Caucasian. Mid-level executive in Public Relations. Husband and father. Veteran of the
Korean War. Orphaned only child of two parents who performed in Vaudeville. Strong lyric baritone or
tenor. Skilled singer with much facility.

[KIRSTEN ARNESEN] To be played by Kelli O’Hara – Character is female (cis, transgender or
nonbinary), late 20s—40s, Caucasian. Executive assistant in Public Relations firm turned housewife
and mother. Only child of first-generation Norwegian parents. Strong soprano. Skilled singer with
much facility.

[ARNESEN] Character is male (cis, transgender or nonbinary), 55—65, Caucasian. Kirsten’s father.
Widower. Taciturn and stern. Non-singing role.

SEEKING:

[LILA] Character is female (cis, transgender or nonbinary), 7—8, any ethnicity. Joe and Kirsten’s
daughter. Self-contained and self-sufficient. Wary due to the circumstances of an innocent upbringing.
Quiet, reserved, mature. Clear, pure soprano with low notes as well. Straight-tone and unspoiled
sound. No musical theatre belt or vibrato. (Juvenile Actor)

60s, Black, Indigenous or person of color. Joe Clay’s sponsor. Working-class. No-nonsense. Various
non-singing ensemble roles. Strong mover. Does not need to sing.

[SALESMAN, CLIENT AND OTHERS] Characters are male (cis, transgender or nonbinary), 55—65,
Caucasian. Various non-singing ensemble roles. Will understudy the role of ARNESEN. Strong mover.
Does not need to sing.

[RAD AND OTHERS] Characters are male (cis, transgender or nonbinary), 40s, any ethnicity. Joe’s
boss in Public Relations firm. Ambitious and toadying. Various ensemble roles. Will understudy the
role of JOE CLAY. Strong lyric baritone or tenor. Skilled singer with much facility.

[BETTY AND OTHERS] Characters are female (cis, transgender or nonbinary), late 20s—40s, any
ethnicity. Various ensemble roles. Will understudy the role of KIRSTEN ARNESEN. Strong soprano.
Skilled singer with much facility.

[MRS. NOLAN AND OTHERS] Characters are female (cis, transgender or nonbinary), 40s—50s,
Black, Indigenous or person of color. Various ensemble roles. Strong mover. Does not need to sing.
