CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF

SEEKING:

Margaret: Female. 25-35. Any Ethnicity. Brick’s wife. Attractive, seductive, and determined. Edgy, tense, and suspicious of Brick’s friendship with Skipper. Struggling to win back her husband’s love.

Brick: Male. 25-35. Any Ethnicity. Former athlete. Favorite son of the family. Has become a difficult alcoholic after the suicide of his best friend.

Big Daddy: Male. 50-70. Any Ethnicity. Patriarch of the family. Brash, vulgar, and dominating. Battling a terminal illness and dealing with family secrets.

Big Mama: Female. 50-70. Any Ethnicity. Sincere, resolutely dedicated to a man -- Big Daddy -- who has been her life, even when he resents her hovering love. In spite of her bluster and her seeming unawareness of the family’s pervasive tensions she plays her cards close and carefully, a very shrewd player in this summer game.

Gooper: Male. 30-40. Any Ethnicity. A successful corporate lawyer and the eldest son, but also the least favorite. He has intense resentment and bitterness towards his family but also an aggressive desire to prove himself and please them. He is very dependent on his wife Mae with whom he calculates plans to protect their interest in his family’s wealthy estate.

Mae: Female. 30-40. Any Ethnicity. Formerly Miss Mae Flynn of Memphis, once wealthy but lost their fortune and their place in society during the crash of ‘29. Mother of the infamous 5 No-Neck Monsters with a 6th one on the way, she righteously defends her husband Gooper (whom she says has “always had to carry a bigger load of responsibilities than Brick”) and is intent on securing his, her and their children’s share of Big Daddy’s estate.

Doctor Baugh: Male. Any age. Any Ethnicity. Big Daddy’s physician. Professional, no-nonsense, a man of science who is wise about death’s place in life and ever curious still to know what’s to come. A man of dignity, his tolerance for Big Daddy and Big Mama’s failings does no extend to their children and families.

Reverend Tooker: Male. Any age. Any Ethnicity. A warm, ambitious, schmoozing minister who is fearless about pitching large offering ideas to his parishioners but behaves selfishly and cowardly, lacking any real capacity for grace, ability to show kindness or give comfort when they are needed most. Buster, Dixie, Polly, and Sonny Pollitt: Any gender. 8-13. The children of Gooper and Mae. Southern, loud, naughty “no-necked monsters”.
